When a young alien king comes to earth for a mission no one could expect the life changing results that would follow his meeting young Kelsey Wells. Even though they are pulled apart for many years in different worlds their love manages to hold strong even if they don't know it. The jumping back in forth through time threw me off a bit. For me it felt like the story was ending just to restart almost from the beginning again. Though I did really like how the story started at the very beginning and that I got to see how Kelsey and Jared first met. The characters were definitely interesting and there was no lack of steamy moments and action so in my opinion Parallel Attraction is worth a read.

What I liked about this story was the relationship between Jared and Kelsey. It was very different and interesting. We are talking closeness on every level here! This story could really go anywhere because of the different facets the author added and time travel helps storylines. Jared’s very hot! I love warrior/king scenarios – makes the guy very manly. It could have given a little more info on the Refarian home planet and more of his background regarding his parents. Maybe that info is in the later books, which I plan on reading soon. Loved this book!

I should have read this book a long time ago! This paperback has been on my shelf waiting to be read for a few years. Leaving the e-reader behind, I took this one with me on vacation this summer and finally got to read it. I'm always happy to find a good Sci-fi romance. One with both a good plot and strong characters. Parallel Attraction fits the bill. Unbeknownst to us Earthlings, our world has been the stage for an intergalactic battle. Jared, the Refarian king, exiled on Earth, has been fighting a battle for his people for all of his adult life. Fleeing from the enemy, Jared is forced to hide the key to a game-changing weapon in the mind of Kelsey in a process that binds the two together. As Jared and Kelsey grow closer, the demands of his people strive to keep them apart. In the meantime, a visitor from the future threatens to destroy the Refarians before they have a chance to take advantage of their new weapon. This story is part intrigue, part action and a lot of romance. I enjoyed it all. The romance between Jared and Kelsey is sweet yet intense. It is imbedded in the story of the Refarians struggle against the Antousians, complete with a secondary caste of characters that complete the story. This is not a simple plot. You do need patience and persistence to appreciate the story. In fact, I started and stopped reading this once because the opening chapter is about teenagers, YA not being what I enjoy reading. I'm glad I picked it up again, because the novel fast forwards to the adult versions of Jared and Kelsey and that is where things get interesting. Still, it is a complex story that will reward you well in the end with a satisfying conclusion - to part 1. It is good enough to stand on it's own. But because of the story and the characters developed in the book, I am enticed to read the next book in the series. I hope to learn more about the Refarian/Antousian conflict as well as revisit some of the memorable characters in this story.

Parallel Attraction captures all the great themes of battle, love and betrayal, the possible extinction of a great race with original, intriguing variations. The Wyoming setting and references to Jackson, Laramie and Yellowstone suffused with alien worlds and technology entice the imagination. Even though there are only a few scenes where the romance is sexually explicit, Knight creates a wild, hot passion that far surpasses earthly romance. Her writing style itself romances the reader by slowly and seductively adding pleasure upon pleasure. Just when the reader thinks they have reached the height of reading pleasure, she gives more... humor, a perfect unexpected twist that opens the heart and imagination, a unique shift, and an addition to the familiar paradigms of the great literary classics.... Although alien and different, the great Refarian king recalls to the reader the legend of great earthly king Arthur. A stunning debut novel! An exquisite paranormal romance! Although technically not an Arthurian romance, Arthur fans will delight in the subtle hints and undertones in this novel. Deidre Knight's Parallel Attraction will capture the heart and soul of anyone whose imagination has ever paused at the shores of Avalon and wondered what could have happened to the greatest king and queen in history. This is one of those rare books where, instead of racing through the book, I slowed my reading pace way down. I was intoxicated by the very language and imagery.

For a science fiction romance set on Earth, I was increasingly impressed with how imaginative and engaging the storyline is. Many have wondered are aliens amongst us even now as we drive to work, shop or play in the park. In Ms. Knight's brilliantly penned debut novel, it's an all out alien war that threatens to engulf not only the two opposing cultures involved, but the unsuspecting residents of oblivious Earth too. Jared Bennet is a king in exile, strategically removed from the frontlines of his people's war against a conquering race. With the development of a powerful weapon though, the war is coming ever closer to him and an intriguing human woman he cannot let go of. Kelsey Wells has seen first hand the alien 'otherness' that is Jared. It's clear the handsome alien needs something from her, but seductive kisses and heated exchanges soon cloud not only Jared's mission, but Kelsey's heart as well. Just as their relationship begins to take shape, Kelsey will undergo a terrifying journey at the hands of a traitor. The only question is will hers and Jared's love be given a second chance--or will all that Jared's people have fought for be lost? Maybe more importantly, can they have both at once? This is a detail packed roller coaster of a romance, and it doesn't slow down from the moment it starts. Torn between duty and the chance at love, Jared is portrayed as a king without country, humble and achingly sexy in his attraction to Kelsey. Both have been searching for something, someone, their whole lives and when they meet it's a classic 'meant to be' feeling. Their relationship is beautifully drawn out and wonderful to read. In addition, Ms. Knight creates two thoroughly intriguing race of aliens with unique abilities that turned a possibly normal science fiction romance into one of spectacular possibilities and endless need-to-know-more details. Look to the sequel, Parallel Heat, starring this one's resident bad guy, to find out more about the passionate aliens Ms. Knight has created.

I picked this book up the day it came out. I could not put it down! As other readers have stated, don't start it at bedtime, you'll deprive yourself of sleep! Jared & Kelsey are star-crossed lovers whose initial meeting is erased from both of their minds. They find each other, and their love, again years later. Will things work out for them? Enter Marco, the mysterious stranger. Is he friend? Is he foe? What happens when he has his own crisis of heart? I thought the writing was phenomenal, especially for a newly published author. I cared about the characters and what happened to them. And, the true test for me, I got chills in places, my heart skipped in places, and I cried more than once. The love they found with each other was a love everyone fantasizes to find, that love-at-first-sight-soul-mate love. I LOVED this book and would highly recommend it. I am anticipating the sequels. I was ready for the next one as soon as I finished this one!

I loved this book. I am not normally a reader of futurist, parallel universe type stuff. But I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for her next one. The teaser at the end looked great too.

I don't usually read sci-fi romance, but I'm glad this is my first. Can't wait for the rest of the series! Even for those who don't care for sci-fi but like romance novels, this is a true romance from beginning to end.

PARALLEL ATTRACTION is the perfect blend of sci-fi, suspense, action, and romance. It¿s a story about the strength of love and the struggles of a world of people fraught in war. The characters are strong-willed, dedicated and determined, during a time of intense uncertainty. The writing is beautiful, flowing over the pages like a cascading waterfall of words. Deidre Knight has built a complicated world that she unravels one page at a time, leaving you wanting, wanting, and wanting more. I couldn¿t put it down, page after page I was drawn into this world I didn¿t want to leave, and craved more. I can¿t say enough good things about this book!!! Don¿t miss it. I can¿t wait for the next, PARALLEL HEAT.

the perfect time is NOT right before bed because you kind of forget to sleep. Deidre Knight has crafted an incredible universe for her readers, and once you step into it, you are reluctant to leave. The plot is compelling, the characters are so well written that they are 'alive.' Ms. Knight has taken a stellar plot and characters and woven them together with incredible skill to create a book you never want to end.

This book is so amazing. The interaction between Jared and Kelsey is HOT. I usually find that books with aliens in it are weird and confusing but not this one. Deidre paints such a great picture that you cannot wait to get to the next page. My favorite book this year so far.

Two teens meet and fall in love almost instantly, but are cruelly forced apart however, because the young man, Jared Bennett is not human, but an exiled alien king, Jared and Kelsey's romance is little more complicated than Romeo and Juliet. Both young people's memories are wiped, so that years later when they meet again, they feel the bond, but don't know what it means. The lost memory is perhaps one factor that compels Jared to place data critical to his people's war efforts into her mind. Memories or no memories, once more, they begin to fall in love as the soul-deep connection springs to life between them. To stop the powerful force that could become in the future, a Judas comes back in time to interfere in Jared and Kelsey's romance, and possibly kill the king. ............ **** If one word had to be used to describe this book, it would be imaginative. Ms. Knight makes good use of paradoxes and time travel, though at times I am reminded of a line in Doctor Who to the effect that the trouble with time travel is you can't be sure if you have done something or will do it. She has also created a fascinating character in the form of Marco, a villain that you can not help but feel compassion for. The good news is a preview shows he will get a story of his own soon. ****

Exiled monarch Jared Bennett struggles to free his people, the Refarians, from oppressors who overthrew his government and imposed dictatorial rule. He desperately wants to free his people and has a weapon that he believes can turn the trick. However, his vessel is under attack by the enemy forcing him to make a dangerous crash landing on planet earth, a place he once visited years ago during his first mating cycle, but his memory of that stopover was erased from his mind by the betrayal of his advisors who rationalized that by claiming Jared did not need a distraction when his people need him.---- Severely wounded, Jared receives perhaps his first break in years when an earthling geologist Kelsey Wells finds him. Instead of fleeing she is transfixed by the beautiful hunk she knows is not of this world or at least Wyoming. Jared is even more stunned as recognizes that he has found his soulmate. The kiss between them eliminates any lingering doubt especially on her part. However, he has a world to save and fears placing his beloved in danger, but Kelsey obstinately rejects his efforts to keep her safe even as she contains secrets that just might save his people if she can just remember them. ----- The star-crossed lead couple turns PARALLEL ATTRACTION into a fabulous military science fiction romance. The story line focuses mostly on the relationship between the heroic single minded Jared and the amusingly satirical Kelsey. He has no time for a woman while she refuses to let him escape without her at his side. Readers will enjoy the soul-mating of the exiled Refarian ruler and the American geologist with a stellar war as the backdrop.---- Harriet Klausner
