How I ruined a military career then healed myself by helping others. _____
In 1972 James Sullivan, upon being assigned to Vietnamfor the second time, ended up in a key position in the central joint intelligence activity for Vietnam. There allinformationof all categories (Secret, Top Secret, Communication Intercepts, Cosmic, agent reports, etc.)flowed and was processed into intelligence. This intelligence was used as the basis for all joint offensive and defensive decisions throughout Southern Vietnam. _____ Being placed in a position as in-county chief, Sullivan had five majors plus other officers and sergeants working for him. Seven colonels were his superiors. No one was directly assisting him. _____ At a crucial time when it was thought an overall enemyoffensive was imminent, Sullivan, withhis team of 25, was required to turn out two-hour briefings with a maximum of two-hours notice. Under a high-level of nervousness, Sullivan wrote what he thought was a funny note. Three days later he was hospitalized for being psychotic. Then when he was released he was assigned to the most dangerous province in the country.
