My wife suggested I read this book. I kept having the same struggle, or some version of it, with my 11 year old. In ParentWise I learned how my own issues with my father were repeating themselves in my relationship with my son. Not only did things improve between us, I also felt better about myself as a dad.
I love this book! Parenting is such hard work and fraught with so many opportunities for mistakes. One of the things that I liked so much about ParentWise is that it is filled with real stories of parents who are struggling with the kinds of experiences we all face at some point in our lives. Not only do I believe I am a better parent after reading this book, but I also have a better understanding of who I am as a person. There is a gentle, forgiving manner in the author's writing that made it easier for me to accept my mistakes and understand the basis of some of my difficulties as a parent. As I could forgive and understand my mistakes I could also rejoice in my successes.
