With dining out such an integral part of Parisian life, it is crucial for travelers to know where they can obtain the authentic experience. Part 1 of this guide describes the best bistros in each of the 20 arrondissements (districts) of Paris. Citations include the authors' rating, the bistro's address and nearest metro, price range, credit cards accepted, business hours, information on service and ambience, and a detailed list of recommended dishes. Part 2 translates the French bistro menu from hors d'oeuvres to desserts, and gives tips on wines. Part 3 lists the places to sample bistro classics such as coq-au-vin or foie gras . This guide is more focused on bistro eating than Patricia Wells's classic The Food Lover's Guide to Paris ( LJ 6/15/84; Workman, 1988. 2d rev. ed.) and Sandra Gustafson's less elegant Cheap Eats in Paris (Chronicle Bks., 1990).
