What if Ariel had never defeated Ursula? It's been five years since the infamous sea witch defeated the little mermaid... and took King Triton's life in the process. Ariel is now the voiceless queen of Atlantica, while Ursula runs Prince Eric's kingdom on land. But when Ariel discovers that her father might still be alive, she finds herself returning to a world--and a prince--she never imagined she would see again.

About the Author

After the sort of introverted childhood you would expect from a writer, Liz earned a degree in Egyptology at Brown University and then promptly spent the next ten years producing video games. Finally she caved into fate and wrote Snow and Rx under the name Tracy Lynn, followed by The Nine Lives of Chloe King series under her real name, because by then the assassins hunting her were all dead. She also wrote A Whole New World: A Twisted Tale; Once Upon a Dream: A Twisted Tale; and As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale. She lives in Brooklyn with a husband, two children, a cat, a part-time dog, three fish and five coffee trees she insists will start producing beans any day. Reading this book felt like watching a Little Mermaid sequel (that wasn’t The Little Mermaid II). This novel incorporates so many characters and settings from the classic Disney animated film that it’s hard not to lose yourself in it and relish the expansion of a world we know and love. The What If premise is really interesting and has unexpected consequences on the lives of many characters, namely Ariel and Eric. They’re five years older but sometimes feel like it has been longer than that since thy first met. And yet there are still glimpses of the young and in love couple we all fell for. But they’re smarter here and more levelheaded, which does a lot for Ariel’s character (especially considering the flack she gets for “giving up everything for a man”). The plot itself is just ok. Not as epic as I would’ve liked (or I thought it was going to be when starting this book), but it served individual development and character moments well. It also allowed room for us to explore multiple characters’ psyches. All in all, I’m beyond pleased with this Twisted Tale and hope to some day see it on the big screen. It’s cinematic from start to finish and will please Little Mermaid fans everywhere.
