"Forgive, not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace." ~author unknown... Sarah wrapped her housecoat strings around her waist and smoothed out the pockets that once held butterscotch candies for her children. She listened to the frightening silence of her now empty home as she opened the utensil drawer and slid her hand to the far back, a place only she would ever go. She could feel the cold metal of the tube cutter, such a small tool capable of so much damage. To test the fit, she slid it into the pocket of her housecoat, and immediately the unbearable pressure of the small item weighed her down. She could see his truck through the window, boldly holding its ground like a demon at the gates of hell. How was she, a housewife, going to find the strength and courage to conquer a monster? Parting Gifts is the story of two friends, one dark secret, and four fateful decisions that would change the course of their lives...and the lives of their families. It's an eloquent debut novel about friendship, choices, regret-and the greatest gift of all: forgiveness.

I couldn't out this book down. I was sucked in! It was very well written and kept me wanting more. I enjoyed reading this book and was very happy at the ending because I didn't feel empty when I finished. I felt like I could relate. Thank you Ms. Tripp for waking up my love of reading again.

I found myself wanting to read this book at one sitting (if I had time!) because as the story unfolds, I wanted to keep reading to find out what happens next, and how it all ends. The story, of two old friends and their experiences from youth to old age, is told in a suspenseful way that keeps the reader wondering the whole time, how will this all turn out? The main characters are likeable and interesting, to the point that sometimes I found myself afraid to see what might happen next, since I had grown to like them so much. Anyone who enjoys a good story about growing up and friendship---with some scary intrigue-- will enjoy this book. It also causes one to think philosophically about life and what makes a good life, at the end of it all... despite all the turmoils that occur along the way.

If you like fiction books so real to life, you could never believe anyone could possibly have just imagined, you must read this “Parting Gifts” by Tracy Tripp. This book would be so very good for anyone from teens to eternity. It is the life of two very young girls growing up very best friends all through their lives. It gets extremely good as they become teens sharing each other’s utmost feelings, happy, sad, silly, funny, and most intimate secrets. I do not believe very many people could really imagine what true friend ship is without reading this book. I had such wonderful warm feelings for the happy times in their lives. I laughed at their wit that just kept getting better with age and cried through the terrible tragic times. I bought one book for myself and one for a sister. Before, I could finish the book, I knew I wanted another for my very best friend, and I have another sister with an eighty first birthday coming soon, so I ordered two more. She has a daughter in her fifties several daughters in laws, and many grand children of all ages that I am sure would very much enjoy this wonderful story. I usually need large print but this print was very readable for me. It is hard to believe this is Tracy Tripp’s first book. I wish her lots of success. This is the kind of books this world needs more of.
