I have used this book in advanced practice preparation and practice. This book is for the individual with an intermediate background in pathophysiology and wants to know more. Nurses are life long learners and as you practice in your profession you will see things that you want to understand better so that you can critically think about what is going on with your clients. This book will help, DON'T throw the baby out with the bath water. Keep this book on your shelf until the thirst for knowledge needs to be quenched, then pick up this book and drink it all in.

I have to agree with some previous reviewers that it's very detailed and 'difficult'. The book outlines pathophysiology to chemical, cellular levels which sometimes get very complex. But that's the essences of this book. This book is not for beginner to learn the pathophysiology. To fully appreciate the fine details the book puts out, the reader must have absolute solid understanding of basic (and bit of intermediate) pathophysiology in addition to basic physioloy and biology. This book is not for quick reference purpose. It takes time to comprehend the complexity, but the human body is complex, too. But once you 'get it' you'll appreciate the knowledge the book revealed. Considering how complex the human body is, the book did a fine job of 'dividing' the body into chapters. So it's no surprising to me that I have to flip back and forth between chapters to understand something as a whole. I have been using this book since it's 2nd edition. It has gone through a lot of improvements, believe me. My husband and I are both critical care RNs and we both love it. I highly recommend this book for non-beginners. It is excellent reference book.

Others that have rated this book poorly didn't have much nursing background. This book is not appropriate for the student who hasn't completed a year of nursing school. Otherwise it is an good reference book but not the one I turn to the most.

I agree this is a bad text with important information buried in technical detail fit for a research scientist. I've never encountered another text this difficult to read. I have a degree in accounting and am taking this course as a prerequiste for a nursing program. There should have been prerequisites for this text.

I bought this book because its the book suggessted for reference for my graudate study. I think its very good. I would recommend it for advance pathophysiology course but for basics Medical Surgical Books are still the best.

Currently using book to assist in teaching class; previously used last edition. I find this version addresses certain phrases with better explanations, but in some topics the order of introduction is suboptimal. Many times certain subjects are explained in clearer ways significantly later in the same chapter. Diagrams are often arranged poorly in relation to the text; sheer number of images on certain pages is distracting from being able to read a topic without stopping.

The only problem was with the delivery time. This was for an online grad. level class. The delivery time was supposed to be 3 days. However, it took 7-8 days for the book to arrive. The first test was 2 days after the arrival.

I am currently taking advanced pathophysiology and I found this book to be a good source of basic information. But, since the book is published in 2006, it is lacking many new advancements in medicine. I find using current medical journals a much more accurate resource,

Very poorly written and difficult to comprehend.

Text is heavily populated with extensive details to the extent that the main idea on every subject is hard to find. I have to use other books in order to find clear explanations about pathophysiology. Quantity does not equal quality.

I am a nursing student and I bought this book for additional information on diseases. I find this book easier to read and better structured than the required text I have bought for my nursing classes. The pre and post chapter sections make this book easy to understand and complete!
