“Patience” by Sydney Lane 5 out of 5 stars I think that this quote from the third installment in the Choices series sums it all up so well: “Sometimes, we can be so blinded by our own insecurities that we can’t possibly see what others see, can’t possibly believe someone else loves us for who we are and nothing more. I’m happy, and quite honestly, relieved that she’s made a decision. Sure, Brody is a risk and Declan is safe, but life isn’t worth living if you never take risks. I mean, how can a heart truly learn to love if it’s never been broken? And how would you recognize joy if you’d never experienced pain? To truly embrace happiness, you often have to make difficult, seemingly impossible choices.” Jenna has her own book! She is such a breath of fresh air and I love her perspective on life. The above quote from her is something we could all use and apply to our own lives! She offers us a profound and exciting new look at the life of Quincy. It would be easy to pass this off as the same book, rewritten again, but it’s not! Jenna’s view is vastly different from Brody’s. She has known Quincy practically her whole life and has seen the demons that she runs from regularly. She has felt her pain and only she can truly understand the depth of the choice Quincy is facing. I like that she doesn’t push Quincy to make a decision and follow through, even though she has known from the beginning what the choice will be. Instead, she is patient and helps her find her own way to the answers that she seeks. Jenna and Quincy may not be blood sisters but they are definitely sisters of the heart. It is refreshing to see a friendship between two women that is pure, unselfish, and thriving. I loved getting an inside look at the relationship between Jenna and Eric. It was great to see how their feelings grew and developed with sex off the table. At one point Eric wonders how things would have been different if they would have been able to be intimate immediately…would he have still gotten to really know her…the way she smells, the sound of her laugh, all the minute details that could have gone unnoticed. Lane takes the road less traveled here by not allowing them to give in to their passion. The bet may have seemed silly, at first, but it was indeed very smart. It allowed these two to create a slow burn that was so hot it left first degree burns on the reader as it smoldered on the pages. The chemistry between them was intense and only added to the bond they were forming outside the bedroom. Jenna has this awesome thought toward the end of the book that is a great outlook on love: “Sometimes, love is a beautiful mess. It isn’t perfect or scripted. It isn’t always smooth and easy, and not everyone gets the fairytale ending. Sometimes, love is a kind of quiet chaos, the perfect calm in the eye of the storm. And always, it is what you hold onto at the end of the day.” It’s wisdom like this that makes Jenna who she is and why is such a good match for both Eric and Quincy. I love her character and I’m anxious to see what the future holds for her. Lane really drew me in with this one. I read it in one sitting and I found myself holding my breath as I flipped the pages. She is a remarkable storyteller and I’m really enjoying this series. It has a lovely balance that works for both young adult and adult alike. I can definitely recommend this book to all! *I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.* Shannon, My Secret Book Spot
What a fun read! I liked Jenna from the beginning of this series, and Sydney Lane did not disappoint. Jenna is a fun, sassy, and down-to-earth girl. Her attitude is something we could all learn from. Reading this hilarious tale about her and Eric and their journey to consummate their relationship was fun and refreshing. Cannot wait to see what is in store for Declan!!!
