Overview

Churchbuilder's debut CD on Shelflife, Patty Darling, captures the enthusiasm of clean, precise, and fun synth pop. Led by Erin Carracher's lead vocals and supported by guitar, synthesizers, Moog keyboard, drums, and backing vocals, the band created a dreamy and danceable beginning to their recording career. Songs like "Vespa" and "French Kiss Conspiracy" settle the listener in for a soft journey of simple themes and simple chords, creating a straightforward indie pop album. Despite the generally upbeat tones, the themes are not entirely upbeat, especially in "Sob Sob," "Dreams," and "Rainy Day." The bittersweet songs are often followed by more wistful songs, creating a wave of moods and themes. Lush harmonies between Erin Carracher and Denise Grollmus are certainly highlighted, especially during "Hey Flannery."
