Payback and a Bottle of Merlot (Like Sisters, #1) by Bria Marche

Mia James almost had it all…

At thirty, she was a successful photographer with the craziest but most loyal friends in the world and a wonderful life in a picturesque village. The only things missing were a husband and a brood of kids. Love happens when you least expect it, her mom always said.

An appointment to show her photography portfolio brought her front and center with Jack Barnes, a gorgeous, successful Manhattan businessman. Mia was smitten, and they married less than a year later. Unfortunately, the marital bliss she craved never showed up.

Jack, the controlling absentee husband, had a secret: someone else was occupying his mind and bed. Mia had no idea until a chance sighting revealed the real Jack with his mystery woman.

Payback was definitely in order and way overdue. With a little help from her friends and a lot of Merlot, Mia was on a mission to take Jack down.

With hilarious speed bumps, hiccups, and crazy calamities along the way, Mia’s ridiculous plot for payback turned into a chance for unexpected friendships and real love.

Payback and a Bottle of Merlot is the first romantic comedy novel in this contemporary romance series. Like Sisters is a laugh out loud series of best friends, hot guys and the right amount of steam to have you anxiously waiting for the next book.
Note: There are no cliffhangers in this series, but since the characters carry over, the books are best read in sequence.

The story was good, but it was very poorly written. It was not believable at all and too immature. I felt that the author was very immature or very young even. Even the sex scenes were lacking. This writer needs alot of work. I don't recommend this book at all.

This is pretty boring so much I found myself skimming and skipping sections. Lots of conversations and situations that have nothing to do with the plot and are filler. So odd she sleeps with a man and then encourages her friend to hook up with him a week later. Really?

I looked at some of the customer reviews and decided different strokes for different folks! Some people did not like this story. Although I am totally against revenge, I found the author's take on it harmless, yet amusing. Unfortunately, there are people who exist that are just like that and worse! It did take time to get to the point, but I thought it was fun. The "laugh out loud" humor didn't occur until towards the end of the book and wished it was applied throughout the book.

What could have been a good story about revenge for infidelity was poorly written in a narrative style. Sentence structure was all the same and boring. The characters were too glib and immature for the seriousness of the situation. It's like it was a fantasy world where everything just fell into place perfectly no matter how unrealistic it was. Sorry, won't be reading any mmore of this series

This book was AWFUL. It was poorly written, and I swear, if I saw the word "moaned" or "shaft" one more time, I was going to scream! By the end, I was just laughing my head off at the romantic scenes. I am usually a lover of any book with a dog in it, but poor Reggie was just an afterthought. "Oh yeah, time to walk the dog." (Spoiler ahead...but not really because it's pretty obvious) Mia and her friends are petty and bizarre, and how realistic is it for you to become immediate and fast friends with the ex-wife and current mistress of your slimeball husband? Couldn't stand this book.

This is a zany tale of getting revenge on a cheating spouse. The main character has acsst of trueblue girlfriends who assist her on the quest, as well as an exwife and the current lover. There were scenes that did not seem to be necessary to the overall story and a good edit is needed. In spite of that, the theme is fun and it is a good, fluffy read for a lazy day

A fantasy about a woman getting even with her cheating spouse. Her plans go too smoothly to be real life. Her husband was very controlling by her description, but he was oblivious to things that were happening around their home. That did make it a good read and it ended as I had hoped. If you believe in justice---you will like this book.

Fun, witty and enjoyable read. Trust and building old and new connecting relationships between women. Walls are built instead of working together as the three women that a self centered man who betrayed each of them to advance in a family friendly work environment.

Boring story. This book didn't make much sense the only real thing I got out of the story is Mia is an alcoholic. All she did was drink day and night. All her friends drank just as much. I think Mia was just as obnoxious as her husband I do not recommend this free book..

Putting aside moral beliefs (because books are an escape for me), I did enjoy this book. As vindictive as I am I thought it deserved five stars but the end seemed rushed a bit so minus one. I am actually interested in the rest of the series.

This is a fun story about Mia finding out her husband is cheating. Hard to believe but it really is humorous. I loved the way she decided to get payback before divorcing him. Mia calls in her two friends, Vic and Tina, to help with her plan. It gets even better when she pulls in his ex-wife and even his mistress! Some of the things these women think of doing to Jack the Jerk (Mia's husband) are hilarious. Of course they have wine while meeting to hash out the details of plan. What would a meeting of friends be without wine? The characters are terrific. Mia is a very smart woman who is a professional photographer. Her skills come in handy to pull off the payback plan. All the women are very good in their fields which they make use of to get even with Jack. I wish I had friends like that. If you're looking for a fun story I'd recommend this book.

This book is terrible. The points of view change by the sentence and the main character talking to herself made me cringe. (NO ONE talks to themselves like that!) The writing was just awful. I did not even finish.

It is too...bland and quick. It's unbelievable on most parts. The autjor used too many sporadic character thoughts. The main character was annoying. 10/10 will not read again. Utter crap!
