I went looking for information on PCOS because my sister was recently diagnosed with this disease. Before that, I don’t think I had ever even heard of the condition much less anything about it. Am I ever glad I stumbled across this book! It seems like it was written just for me – someone totally ignorant of the condition and it’s problems. It is very easy to read and understand and really explains the problems and treatment in simple terms. The information is so useful, it even has some lesser known facts that my sister hadn’t learned yet in all her own research into the disease. She and I are grateful to have found such down-to-earth advice to use while learning how to manage this lifelong issue.
This book has a very thorough explanation of indicators of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and steps to take to potentially improve symptoms. The author explained the syndrome in simple terms so it was understandable for me, as well as the imaging studies often used for diagnosis and other conditions that mimic PCOS. I especially enjoyed the chapters on fertility issues, weight management and lifestyle changes, and drug-free approaches to dealing with those issues. The recipes included are nutritious and low on glycemic load to help address insulin resistance. A great read for patients new to PCOS!
The author explains this syndrome in detail, which was very helpful, giving me a good idea of what to expect with the condition. Treatments both medical and natural, such as dietary and exercise and their importance, made me realize the seriousness of the syndrome. I have always worked hard to lose weight with very little success, maybe this is why. Can’t wait to try some of the recipes such as the “Breakfast in a Skillet.”

I have two nieces that have been diagnosed with PCOS. They have had it for years. Even though they both have a child my one niece has had no luck conceiving another child. Her doctor never even suggested it might be the PCOS. I bought this book so I could better understand PCOS and maybe help her. The book is easy to read without a lot of medical terminology that would make it hard to understand. The book really went in-depth on the infertility issues associated with PCOS. I believe it will help my niece. I now have a better understanding of it and my niece can use this as a guideline when talking with her doctor. The book also has many suggestions on treating the PCOS with diet and exercise.
