The Peacegiver by James L. Ferrell

How is Christ the answer to a strained relationship with child, parent or sibling? What if I am being mistreated — what does the atonement say about that? How can I discover the desire to repent when I don't feel the need to repent? These are the challenging questions of daily life, the questions to which the gospel must provide an answer if it is to have living, cleansing, redeeming power. The Peacegiver is a book about the answers to these questions. In both content and form it is unlike other books about the atonement, for it unfolds as compelling story in which the characters learn about the Atonement as they struggle over the problems in their lives — problems we each share. The book therefore allows us not only to "learn about" the Atonement but also to have an experience with it.

This is a truly remarkable book--for me, the best book I have ever read. I can hardly describe it as it gives such a fresh and clarifying view of Christ's atonement, and how the Savior can change our hearts and the health and happiness of our relationships. Part of its power, I think, is that the book unfolds as a real-to-life story, so that the learnings about the atonement--which are truly stunning--have a context that makes them real and practical. I have already read the book three times, in less than two weeks, and I'm sure I'll read it many more times in the coming months and years. It is an eye-opening, heart-changing read. If you are a believer in Christ, or at least open to the Christian message, this is a must read.

I have been a victim, of much, for much of my life. I could not understand WHY I was being told 'I' needed to repent. This incredible, incredible book on The Atonement is so-o well written from the view of 'Ricky' a young father who feels wronged in his marriage. His loving Grandfather Carson has passed on, and comes to help him see why and how the Atonement covers his wife's sins* [*in Ricks eyes]. Rick needs to worry about his own sins, even though he thinks he has been sinned against. The scriptures 'come to life' in a series of dreams. Doctrine is taught, all the while, Ricky clinging to and justifying HIS hurt and anger. (sound familiar?) Through this book, the scriptures & prayer, I am finally able to move forward, and am beginning to heal from my many wounds of the past.

My husband and I had this book recommended to us. We happen to be members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as the author is, however, the person who recommended it to us is not. The author very craftily deals with marriage struggles, communication, holding grudges, blaming others, forgiveness and much more by using stories from the Old Testament which we normally bypass. It is hard to explain how the author teaches and touches hearts without being "preachy" or boring. We read the book fairly quickly, but did plenty of underlining and plan to re-read it often. This sounds trite, but we both felt profoundly changed as a result of this book.

I read this book years ago and LOVED it, but the last couple of weeks, after a long rough year, my marriage was heading down a dark, slippery, damaging slope. Out of the country and desperate, I felt impressed to purchase the Nook version of this book that sits on my shelf at home. It allowed me to allow the Lord to change my heart, which in turn allowed a shift in my husband...and he didn't read the book, nor did I share any of its easily accessible but profound wisdom and truths! This book introduces you to the path of personal peace and helps your heart to back off from the war raging within. On a purely critical vein, I am EXTREMELY sad the ebook version does not have ANY of the myriad footnotes and the scriptural references that the hard copy of this book has. People who read ebooks should be able to study the actual verses the author got thses insights from. Shame on whoever decided to omit them.

This book helped me to put my life in better perspective. I like how he compares Satan's lies to a fine thread that becomes a chain entangling us until we can't seem to free ourselves! A must read if you are Christian!
