The Peasant Queen is an interesting story that is well written and full of engaging characters. I personally was disappointed with the end of the story (I don't want to give away too much.) The beginning of the story feels like it could be like 'Beauty and the Beast' (my favorite fairy tale). So I was in that frame of mind as I read. About half way through the book I figured out that it was more of a 'Robin Hood' type love story (think Maid Marian, Robin Hood, and Sir Guy of Gisborne). It took me some time to adjust but eventually I got there. And of course there was a happy ending. Just a note: The Peasant Queen earned an extra star for the potential I see in the series, granted this is partially based on The Wild Queen (which is a prequel to this book.) Overall this was a pretty good read. If you like stories set in medieval, fantasy worlds with a hint of a love story, you will like this book.

I loved this story about a peasant girl who was kidnapped by a wicked king. Although Gregory is portrayed as a horrible man, I couldn't help but be drawn to his character as he suffered blow after blow from this peasant girl he loved with tender affection. Well drawn characters. Well done.

I love this story. I found myself in love with the villain and hoping in the end he'd win. The story itself is fun and fresh, yet it has an old world fairy tale feel to it. It's one of those books you'll read, put on your shelf, and pick up months later to read again. I look forward to its sequel!

Life has never been better for Krystal of Avolonya. That is, until her brother decides to betroth her to the local village boy who can't keep his drool to himself. Repulsed, Krystal finds herself wondering the nearby woods. Should she remain here, and meet her fate with a dreary boy who would probably have her gut fish all day long? Or should she find a better life for herself beyond the forestlands? It isn't until she decides running away would prove foolish, when a band of men find her alone-and it is no coincidence. Krystal is thrust into a kingdom filled with magic, love, and betrayal. This sweet story enchanted me with its colorful people-even the villains are charming! Because of the delightful cast of characters, the read passed in a lighthearted pace. I enjoyed experiencing Krystal's sense of integrity as she remained true to her heart, and how fiercely loyal she is to her friends. I know my daughter would love this book!
