Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“A baby’s favorite game is the inspiration for this pop-up book, which encourages new talkers to join in and “read” and even initiate their own games of peekaboo. The pop-ups are especially well designed for little hands inclined to help.”—Parents’ Choice
Children's Literature
Billed as "a first pop-up book," this British import designed to be used with child in lap takes on the classic game. Five sturdy pop-ups within an equally sturdy binding are simply introduced: "Where's Mommy?" . . . "PEEKABOO!" . . . "Where's Daddy?" . . . A jack-in-the-box, a dog, and baby himself complete the game. The minimal text is set in extra-large type for early readers to pick out the letters. Claverie's warm-toned illustrations in yellows and oranges create a satisfying unity for the work, and his extra touches of humor (such as the headlines in the newspaper Daddy is reading: "DROUGHT: WATER-PISTOLS BANNED") will be scanned avidly by parents after the tenth or fifteenth presentation of the story. PEEKABOO! is a nice little addition to time-honored first books for baby such as Pat the Bunny. 2004 (orig. 1985), Knopf, Ages 3 to 6.

This book was given to my son as an infant.  He loved it, he couldn't take his eyes off of it in anticipation of the "peekaboo!" That would pop up.  We used it whenever  we had pictures taken of him because we knew he would smile or giggle.  I'm now giving it as gifts to friends who are about to be new moms.
