First in this new series. Very good read. Intrigue, romance a little steam. The story flowed and held my interest. I figured the bad agent out but had a problem picking out the "friend" angle. Good read, well worth the time spent.

Oh my!!! This was a great book and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I really like this author's books and she is a go to for me but this book is my absolute favorite of hers. This one had me on the edge of my seat and read it in one night. Sophie and Damon have a past and are brought together again after 4 years. Who can they trust? Can Sophie trust Damon? Loved the side characters and hope they get their own books. Not only a romance but a mystery. Great cover and title. Highly recommend. It is a book I will read again.

This is a great story with suspense, mystery and twist and turns. Not sure who to trust Sophie takes a chance on Damon with her safety and her heart. Trying to figure out if they are two steps ahead or five steps behind will keep you turning the pages. I could not put this book down. Trying to figure out who to trust and who not to trust will have you suspicious of everyone. A suspenseful romance that will not disappoint. Looking forward to more books in this series.

Wow! This newest series by Barbara Freethy starts out with a bang! Fast paced story that keeps you guessing along the way to try to figure out which direction the story is going - who can be trusted. Sophie is the daughter of an FBI agent who is head of the Crime Division in NYC. She is now a professor during the school year, and takes students on archaeological digs during the summer. She and her father are close, so Sophie is confused when she gets notified by the FBI that her father was killed in an auto accident, but that they are investigating whether it was accident or if he was killed on purpose. Imagine her surprise to get mysterious messages on her voicemail from her father shortly after hearing he was killed. That is the start of her adventure to get to the truth. Enter Damon - who was mentored by Sophie's dad while he was an instructor at Quantico. Damon and Sophie had a one-night fling to get over a shared grief over a close friend. At the time neither knew of the connection with Sophie's dad. Each avoided the other for over 4 years. However, upon learning about his mentor's death and Sophie's disappearance, he feels he has to go to try to find and help her. With twists and turns, this book will keep you hooked until you finish. Even with the passage of time, the feelings they have for each other are obvious to both of them. Loved the interaction with fellow Quantico agents, and can't wait to see what their stories bring as this series unfolds. You can never go wrong with a Barbara Freethy Book!

This book has a great premise and a solid start--it had me hooked from the very first page, and I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next for Damon and Sophie and to a lesser degree, Bree and Wyatt. Damon and Sophie had a (brief) history as well, which also piqued my interest, and kept me turning pages, wanting to see what they would do with it. The suspense part of the story was solid, I honestly didn't know who did what and exactly why until the end, when all was revealed. (Quick question--do real-life antagonists really tell all in the end to the heroes, even if they think they've already won? It really seems more like convenient fictional exposition than realism...still, at least we get to know the truth.) Somewhere in the second half of the story, though, the suspense became more real than the romance. It felt like Sophie and Damon went from "let's try and forget about that awkwardly-ending night four years ago" to love a little too fast, skipping some crucial steps in between along the way. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to believe in their relationship, but it didn't feel like there was enough foundation laid down for what it was supposed to be becoming. Still, I did like them together and their epilogue was darn cute. The next two books will be Bree and Wyatt's, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for them. Even though this story wasn't perfect, Ms. Freethy definitely grabbed my interest with her characters and I'm looking forward to more gotta-find-out-the-truth suspense. Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

An outstanding book! I was hooked from the first page. I enjoyed the characters, the intrigue, and the fast pace of the book. The action was constant; many times I wanted to peek at the end of the book. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Sophie's dad FBI agent Alan Parker leaves messages somewhat cryptic messages for his daughter before he's killed and she is surprised when she receives them and the news that he's had an accident. She and Damon, an FBI agent trained by her dad have a brief history and have vowed to stay away from each other and been successful for 4 yrs until now. When Sophie comes up missing after her dad's death and his friend and undercover agent is in danger, Damon sets out to find answers and Sophie. The past between them isn't over and they only have each other and possible Damon's 2 friends they can trust to get them out of a bad situation. The attraction between them is still strong and so is the danger they're in. Together and with the help of Damon's friends they work to get to the bottom of their mentor's (Sophie's Dad) death. Wonderful start to a new series! I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

This Romantic Suspense book from Barbara Freethy was amazing! A little more suspenseful then romantic but none the less, it had my heart racing at times. The characters and descriptions were well spelled out. I felt like I was right with Sophie and Damon through every twist and turn in their hunt for the friend and the foe! Each page had me guessing and wondering what was coming next, and it was never expected what actually happened! Looking forward to the next books in the series and hope Damon and Sophie make an appearance!

A Romantic Suspense filled with action, mystery, and a bunch of twists. I received a complementary copy from the author / publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Note: This review contains NO spoilers Let's see... First, I would like to note that I don't read many crime/drama romance novels; however, the synopsis for this book got me all curious and interested. Well, I would have to say that I liked the "implied" plot stated in the synopsis. Plus, I have not read any books written by Barbara Freethy, so I was going in blind"... hahaha!!! So... Let's begin. Perilous Trust is the first in a new romantic suspense series, Off The Grid: FBI Trilogy. As stated in the synopsis, a tragic events brings two main characters, namely Sophie and Damon, together. But, nothing is what is seems: a cryptic message, coded chat, secrets on top of secrets, AND plenty of government agents. So, Sophie and Damon are on run, not just from those shooting at them, but also from a past that they shared together. The character development and world building was fantastic and detailed. With each turn of the page, I was with them as they evaded mysterious shooters and law enforcement while searching for the truth. From beginning to end, there was an ample amount of mystery, action, plot-twists that kept me guessing as to who to trust...haha!!! All the while, the romance/chemistry between Sophie and Damon was reignited and slowly developed as they got closer to the truth; moreover, the romance was subtle, not overwhelming which did not take away from the suspense and mystery. There was a lot of memory flashbacks in which helped glue the story/plot together and pieced the puzzle together. I was definitely at "the edge of my seat" with the mystery and secrets being revealed. However, I found that some chapters throughout the book tended to drag. It definitely deterred from the fast-pace of the story. But then again, much of the history of these characters had to be told in order to set up this first book, and to introduce readers to all these other characters that the following books will center on. Moreover, it did not deter from the flow and consistency of the story in which it worked to set up this series. So... I guess, the slow down in parts of the book really wasn't a bad thing...haha! So, after reading this first book in the Off The Grid: FBI Trilogy, I am a fan! Therefore, Perilous Trust is a romantic suspense filled with action, mystery, and twists that will keep readers guessing all the way to the end! I am definitely looking forward to the next books in this series!

Perilous Trust this new Trilogy by author Barbara Freethy is a bit different from her other books. Yes as other reviews say cryptic messages, who to trust and believe me you will not know till the very end of this Romantic Suspense. I am hoping the characters introduced in this first book will be repeated in both other books. The beginning I found a bit hard to keep track of who was who. In between suspense romance is introduced as a one night stand years ago begins again. Then back on the track of who to trust. Is there no one? There must be someone but who? Highly recommend this book for those who love suspense and romance. Honest review as ARC member. Jan B.

Wow...I'm loving this new series! What do you do when your FBI agent dad sends multiple voice mail messages to your cell phone as he's being forced off the roadway and killed? You pay attention to his warning and trust no one! Sophie gets these cryptic messages and heeds his advice, taking off to a location only known to a trusted few and leading her on a quest to clear his reputation. Damon, having been recruited to FBI NYC by Sophie's dad, realizes he might be the only one who knows where Sophie has gone. He is correct, then bullets begin flying and this story, as well as Sophie and Damon, takes off! Who can they trust? Can they even trust each other? What's been going on in the NYC office? Can Damon's friends help them or are they in on the whole cover up? The twists and turns in this book are magnificent! I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Barbara Freethy just kicked it up a notch with Perilous Trust. The first of a new series, this story revolves around Sophie Parker and Damon Wolfe. Sophie teaches archaeology at NYU and takes students on digs in the summer. Her world is turned upside down when two of her father's FBI friends and co-workers show up one day after class to let her know that her father had been killed. After they leave, Sophie looks at her phone and sees that her father had left several voicemails for her before he died leaving her very cryptic instructions on what to do, but was very clear that she shouldn't trust the police or anyone at the FBI and she needs to get away. Sophie goes to her fathers safe house at the lake following his first clue. Damon had met Sophie four years earlier at the lake house at the wake of their mutual friend Jamie who was killed while on a mission with the FBI. They had one night together, but never saw each other again. On a whim, Damon takes a trip to the lake house upon hearing that Sophie went missing after receiving the message of her father's death. Damon finds Sophie at the lake house. While Sophie isn't sure if she should trust Damon, after being shot at she realizes she's going to need help and decides to take the chance. There are so many twists and turns to this story that you can't put it down once you start! I've always enjoyed the suspense and mystery in Barbara's stories, but this story grabs you from the very first words and keeps you hanging on the edge until the very end! There is an intense underlying chemistry between Sophie and Damon too that they try to fight, but they realize quickly that it's something they can't ignore. What develops between them throughout the story is a love we all hope to find. I would highly recommend this book to anyone! I received an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Perilous Trust is the 1st book in the Off The Grid: FBI series. Sophie is totally thrown when her father died. He had left several voice mail messages for her prior to his death that lead her to believe that she is in danger and not to trust anyone, including previous close friends/FBI co-workers of her father's. Damon locates Sophie at her family's cabin where her first clue from her father's voicemail's led her. While they are escaping from being shot out Damon convinces her to let him go with her. Sophie is very cautious and it takes quite a bit for her to trust Damon. It doesn't help that these two had a one night stand prior to Damon realizing who Sophie's father was. I loved the intrigue, suspense, mystery paths that this story took. It drew me into the story and kept me intrigued to the very end. It was almost like being on a savager hunt. I was guessing all through the book on who to trust and who not to trust. The secondary characters, Bree and Wyatt, really add another layer to this book. I hope to see more of all these characters in the book....maybe a love interest between Bree and Wyatt?

Off the Grid is Off the Charts. Suspense and sizzle at every turn Sophie and Damon are never sure who they can trust and the reader is never sure either. There are clues along the way but some just lead to dead ends. Barbara never disappoints You will not be able to put this down

Perilous Trust is the first book in a new FBI series OFF THE GRID by Barbara Freethy. Usually, I can figure out who the “bad guy” is or could be in a suspense novel. I couldn’t figure it out in this one which added to the tension and intrigue. Sophie Parker receives a voicemail from her father just before he is killed in a car accident. Using the hints from this phone call, she begins to decipher her father’s last message to her. Damon Wolfe an FBI agent on Sophie’s father’s team, goes out on his own to find Sophie against F.B.I. instructions. Damon and Sophie crossed paths four years previously. Damon and other agents from their class at Quantico continue to access a secret communication protocol. The use of baseball metaphors in the secret chat room was creative. The main characters in Perilous Trust are interesting and well-developed. The fear of knowing who to trust was ever-present. Parts of the story were filled with terror and fright. If you like romantic suspense, Perilous Trust is a wonderful choice. Looking forward to other additions in the OFF THE GRID series.

Barbara does it again with a suspense filled book that I could not stop turning the pages. Sophie’s father was an FBI agent that was killed and his final words were left on her voicemail. She knows that she needs to follow his instructions to stay alive and finish whatever it was he started. Along the way she is joined again by Damon Wolfe, the one night stand that she has never been able to get over and current FBI agent. Together they have to find out who in the FBI they can trust to find out the truth and to stay alive, but do they still have feelings for each other too? I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

I received an ARC copy of Perilous Trust in exchange for an honest review. I was hooked on this book right away. The book starts off in a scene with a voicemail from Sophie's father. He gives her clues she needs to follow in order to find his killer. Sophie doesn't know who to trust. I was on the edge of my seat through the entire book. I really enjoyed it and was kept guessing until the end! I highly recommend this book!
