Overview

Hanna Elliot had worn the ring faithfully at first.
Some part of her still clung to the hope that all was not lost. But as the days turned into weeks she finally took it off and set it atop her dresser. When weeks gave way to months, the ring went back into its box, where it gathered dust until it was moved to Hanna's unmentionables drawer. For the first few years, she took it out on the anniversary of the day she'd received it, allowing herself to wallow in what might have been . . .

She had been all but stamped out of Derick Wentworth's mind.
Sure, he thought about her occasionally, especially on cloudless nights when he lay on the bow of the Laconia looking up at the stars. But as time went on, Derick began to feel grateful that it hadn't worked out, for one thing was certain: if he ever did settle down, it would be with someone who knew her own mind. Someone who went after the thing she wanted without hesitation. Someone who would never allow herself to be persuaded otherwise . . .

I love Austen's Persuasion. This modern retelling was such a creative new twist on the story. Hanna and Derick don't just rekindle their old romance, they get to know each other in a new way now that they're a little older and have more about life figured out than when they first met. They fall in love again in this sweet love story about getting a second chance with your first love. The writing pulled me right into their passionate emotions and it had me in tears by the end. You don't have to have read Austen's book to enjoy this, but if you have, you will enjoy it even more. This is my favorite of Pulsipher's books so far.

Persuaded is a modern re-telling of Jane Austen's Persuasion by Misty Dawn Pulsipher. Guys, if you even remotely have feelings for your ex, don't date her sister-in-law, sister, or best friend. Why do guys do that? *kicks Derek in the shins* I loved their story though. Derek and Hanna are great characters, and I was completely absorbed into their lives.  Persuaded by Misty Dawn Pulsipher was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

Misty Dawn Pulsipher knows how to tell a love story.  Hanna was devastated when her brief romance with Derick was ended abruptly when he left without a word when they were young.  Fast forward 10 years where Hanna is spending the summer with her sister and family at a gated beach community.  While enjoying her summer watching her nephews and spending time of the beach, she finds herself 2 doors down from Derick and his family who are also there for the summer.   Unfortunately the tension from the past is weighing on her shoulders.  Add to the mix a young, attractive family member devoting all her time to get Derick's attention, Hanna is thrown into a storm  of feelings, unanswered questions, tension and a desire that shes afraid to follow.  Will Derick and Hanna be able to work through the past and have a future together ?  You will have to read the book to find out.

I love Jane Austen's stories and I love it when they're made into a more modern version. This one was a surprisingly great retelling! Each chapter began with a quote from Persuasion, which I loved and which totally applied to what happened in that chapter. Hanna hasn't ever really gotten over her first love, Derick. But he seems to have moved on. He races boats and has found himself in the spotlight. When he disappears for a time, there is much speculation. Imagine Hanna's surprise when she runs into him again after all these years...and watches him fall in love with her sister's sister-in-law. My first impressions were mixed. Hanna is an absolute angel, completely selfless, and very patient and kind--to the point that she's walked all over by those she loves. I wanted her to grow a backbone. Derick is a jerk. As the story unfolded, I realized that my first impressions weren't completely accurate. There were reasons for these behaviors. I loved the imagery and character descriptions. I really grew to love (and hate) certain ones and found myself completely involved in what was going on. I really want a beach house for the summer, where the houses go by names and not numbers. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more by this author! Content: a mild fight; mild-moderate romance--kissing, some mild innuendo. Clean! *I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*

Loved the love story this took on. Felt every emotion that characters were going through. To me that makes a great book when you can relate or feel as if you are the person you are reading about. Felt the tension, the love, just all of it! This will be a book to pick up and enjoy by all that haven't read it yet!

I was disappointed in the book but maybe I expected too much from it. It is the modern day story of Jane Austen's Persuasion. I found the book to be slow and boring in parts. Hanna and Derrick are supposed to be in love with each other but Derrick seems to be attracted to Hanna's sister in law Ella. He denies it and says he is in love with Hanna. Read the story today to see how it all ends.

I usually don’t read contemporary romances, the books I tend to gravitate towards are paranormal fantasies, post-apocalyptic, and thrillers, however I found myself turning the pages with fury just much as if this was one of those. There are no murder plots, burning buildings or zombie wars, yet the story of this rekindled love is just as captivating. I connected with the characters from the start and really felt for all of them. I couldn’t help but love Hanna, and even though Derick seemed like a jerk at times, he turned out to be quite a wonder. The author also includes a line from Jane Austen’s Persuasion at the beginning of each chapter, I found that to be a lovely touch. I read this book with a smile on my face and I really hated to put it down each night. I stayed up till 1:30 this morning to finish, and I would have been happy with reading further into the morning if there had been more story. I didn’t want it to end. This book is definitely going into the “re-read” file and I will be reading more of Misty’s books!

Persuaded Misty Dawn Pulsipher All of the characters in Persuaded are intriguing. I didn’t find one I didn’t like at first. I started to expect something wasn’t right with a few of them. Why and who I cannot tell you. Hannah and Ella one knows she is beautiful and the other is also beautiful but doesn’t think she is. Some turn of events that made it fun. Benny was my favorite, a lost soul his past haunting him. I found it hard to put it down. Clean, fun, a good beach/rainy day book. If you like clean romance with a few twist here and there this book is for you. Linda Young
