Shortly after his eighteenth birthday, when his beautiful mother died, Peter Thornwell's idyllic boyhood ended.

One warm Saturday in spring, only a month after his wife's funeral, Mason Thornwell summoned his son to his presence.

When the boy was nowhere to be found in the great house, Ivers, the young footman, was dispatched to search the grounds of the vast estate.

It took Ivers the better part of an hour to find the boy, whom he addressed always as "Master Peter."

Never before had Ivers found Master Peter in so embarrassing a condition. The beautiful boy was stark naked, kneeling in the damp grass on the side of the barn that was concealed by tall shrubbery. He was peering through a hole in the thin wooden wall--and masturbating.

Ivers approached Peter in the gentlest, tenderest manner for, indeed, aside from being the only child of his master, he loved the boy dearly.

He put his hands on Peter's bare shoulders and said, "Master Peter, you must get dressed and come into the house. Your father wants you. Where are your clothes?"

Peter, who didn't seem in the least startled or otherwise put off by being interrupted in the middle of a lusty session of jacking off, replied, "Oh, Ivers! Poor Dirk is getting it again from his father. I don't know how he can stand it. It's the second time in a week."

Through the thin wall of the barn, Ivers heard a cracking noise at spaced, rhythmic intervals. After a few reiterations, he identified it as the sound of a whip lashing bare flesh.
