Creating really surreal photo effects are some of my favorite Photoshop activities. Perhaps that is why this book is my favorite of the Photoshop Cookbook series. Like the other books in O¿Reilly¿s Photoshop Cookbook series, this book does an excellent job combining clear instructions, screen shots of Photoshop commands, and ¿Before¿ and ¿After¿ pictures to show exactly how to pull off each recipe. This book covers a wide-range of really interesting effects. Of course you¿d expect the traditional distortion and lighting effects (like a fish-eye lens effect or adding rays of light to a photograph), but there are also a lot more subtle effects (like adding film grain or painting clouds into the sky). Some of Photoshop¿s more obvious effects are also covered, but in a very interesting way. In one particular example, the author shows how to create an Andy Warhol-like ¿Pop Art¿ style screen print. This is a really cool effect. The layout, screenshots, and examples make this both an easy and fun book to read. You¿ll want to have some spare digital photographs available so you can work along with the examples in the book. Highly recommended for digital photographers with beginning to intermediate Photoshop skills.
