Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Directed by Gore Verbinski (The Ring, The Mexican), Pirates of the Caribbean -- The Curse of The Black Pearl parlays the action and romance of Disney's theme park attraction to the big screen, with a touch of the supernatural thrown in for good measure. Composers Klaus Badelt (The Recruit) and Hans Zimmer (The Lion King), who have collaborated on the scores for Gladiator and Hannibal, join forces once again on Pirates, with the Academy Award–winning Zimmer serving as producer. The disc opens with a few bars of a deceptively merry melody played on a solo cello. Then, like a sudden plunge into the deep, pulsating horns and violins usher in a darker passage. "The Medallion Calls" follows, again with a brief, romantic orchestral introduction to what becomes a sweeping section with a wordless male chorus, brass, and taut strings conveying a sense of adventure and excitement that reaches an ominous climax. It's a melody that recurs throughout the score, with each variation signalling dark and dangerous doings. In a final burst of fireworks, "He's a Pirate" serves as an orchestral coda to this rousing salute to those tales of derring-do that can, at least in dreams, make pirates of us all.

This cd is the best. Almost as good as the movie. Think if movies like this one and like Titanic they wounldn't be quite as good if they didn't have music. So I say buy this cd now! I am a clarinet player and I wish I could of played this piece!

As a music student buying this soundtrack is probably unforgiveable, but I'll confess to this because it is fantastic. Quite abrupt in places, but with some incredibly catchy themes. Overall very frantic - not really the sort of thing you'd listen too for a bit of relaxation, but it does get you nodding your head and grinning. Much swashbuckling pirate shiver-me-timbers rousing music included - hurrah! If you're thinking about getting it, do. It's worth it.

I rate it like 10 stars but they dont have that. the music is totally amazing it sounds like you're really there. It makes you want to watch the movie over and over again. I LOVE the Movie and Anything with Orlando Bloom. it is 1 of the best Disney movies ever made.i would recommend it to EVERYONE!!!

The "Pirates" score is powerful and well written, especially in the context of the movie. It is reminiscent of Hans Zimmer's "Gladiator." There are few main themes, but those few are very commanding. The differences between the "good pirate" theme and the "bad pirate" theme allow a listener to tell what is happening by the music alone. As the themes are general and recurring often it seems like you are listening to the same track over and over again. In general it is a very good score.

My music collection is made up largely of soundtracks and movie scores; in my mind nothing makes a good movie great like a rousing score. In this case Badelt delivers! The music is driving, pounding, and intense, every theme and musical line capturing the drama of the high seas. Tracks 2, 7, 14, and 15 are of particular note. Good music for background or for driving... or sailing.

Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer did an excellent job with the music for Pirates of the Caribbean! I love how they bring out all the emotion that was in the movie and put it in the soundtrack. I was REALLY pleased and I can't wiat to buy it!

Just as Gore Verbinski's film captured the essence of the classic Errol Flynn swashbucklers, so does the score. Badelt and Zimmerman joined forces to bring about this epic score. "Black Pearl", "Moonlight Serenade" and "Underwater March" remain some of my favourite tracks. The theme from the movie's trailer is also constantly replayed throughout. It has all the halmark/trademark crescendos and bangs that are now staple in the bombastic Bruckheimer summer blockbuster fare; though thankfully this score transcends those cliches. Overall, a must!

I've always liked instrumental music but this CD turned me from liking to loving. I saw the movie and noticed how neat sounding the theme song was, so I checked it out and now I'm hooked. I love the way the instruments blend together to make an all around amazing piece. My favorite songs are "Swords Crossed" and "Barbossa Is Hungry"

this is one of the best soundtracks that u can find out there. i'm only really mad now because i never actually saw pirates in the theaters, and now if i did, it wouldn't be the same cause i've already seen it at home. it's my favorite movie though, and johnny depp, keira knightley, and orlando bloom are some of the best actors i've seen. i can't wait for dead man's chest to come out!!!! this needs so many more than 5 stars

Hey, this is a great Cd. When I listen to it I feel so, well... majestic... if I can put it like that. Even my 17 year old bro says that is cool sounding music. There is a nice mix between "sea chanties" and slower songs! I have just about overplayed my CD! Get it if you don't have it, or if you don't want to buy... borrow it from someone else to listen to it!

The music goes so well with the movie. I love it. It makes the movie more exciting. I was also excited that one of the songs on here is also with the movie Thunderbirds. This is great music and I can't wait to buy this Cd.

As a huge John Williams fan, I have very high exspectations, but this came very close to meeting them. The music is definatly very pirate-y and does a lot to enhance the movie. The CD doesn't contain the best of the score, and it gets repetitive, but it's definatly worth it to shell out the twenty bucks for this recording.

I love this music!!! As soon as I saw the film, which i also loved, the music clicked with me. It's exciting, like the movie, but suspensful. It's excelent and I hope to get sheet music to it too. I watched to the end of the cast (and the little clip at the end of the cast) just to listen to the music. I reccomend this to not only classical music lovers but to all people who enjoy powerful music.

Oh, this soundtrack is fabulous. When I first saw the movie, I recognized the music as being familiar, and learning that Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt did it. If you liked the Gladiaotr soundtrack and the theme song from The Rock, you'll LOVE this. Some part are almost identical to The Rock theme, and the Gladiator music played during the fight scenes. If you just like theme music in general, then it's great, too. Fans of Gladiator, Lord of the Rings ect. will go for it. It does, of course, have a 'pirate' ring to it, so if you're new to theme music, watch out for that. Over all, this soundtrack is fantastic, and I would certainly recommend it.

I LOVE this CD, just as I LOVE the movie. I like classical music, and this is certainly worthy of a listen by anyone else who does. I would give it 100 stars if that was an option. It is by far becoming one of my favorite things to listen to. If you haven't listened to it or seen the movie...what are you waiting for?

Finally! After Seabiscut, Freaky Friday, and Legally Blond 2, a fantasic movie with amazing music. When you are in the theater watching the horrific cursed pirates, the amazing sword play, and drooling over Bloom and Depp, the music sweeps you away and carries you into the story. Side by side with Depp( how hot is he!) you are a pirate in a sword fight for gold and your life. You are Elizabeth scared and confused about the necklace you stole from Orlando. This music is amazing! Go see this movie and listen to the music!
