A Place Called Home by Jo Goodman

When Thea Wyndham and Mitchell Baker learn they've been named joint guardians for their late friends' three children, they're little more than acquaintances. Barely polite acquaintances, at that. Something about Mitch's forthright intensity has always left ad exec Thea feeling off-balance, while Mitch makes no secret of his disdain when Thea offers him financial assistance if he'll take sole guardianship.

Thea is far from heartless. She's just plain terrified of her new parenting responsibilities. Both she and Mitch are romantically involved with other people. Yet the more time they spend together, the less certain she is of her loyalties. There are complications and missteps, tears and laughter—lots of it. And somehow, through it all, the dawning realization that the last place she thought she'd find herself could be just where she belongs. . .

Praise for Jo Goodman's Marry Me

"Fans of historical and western romance will appreciate Goodman's witty dialogue, first-rate narrative prose and clever plotting." –Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"An insightful, gently sensual love story." –Library Journal

I enjoyed meeting Thea and Mitch. Their story was a sad one, and the two made the best of the situation. I LOVED the twins. The were full of life and said exactly what popped in to their heads. I thought this story was a bit long. It was a slow starter for me. I didn't really start getting all that interested until close to 3/4 through. The thought sequences were VERY descriptive and the sex scenes, while hot, were as equally as wordy. I found myself skimming a lot. I will try this author again, but I think I will wait a while.

This is one of my favorites by this author. I found my self crying one moment and laughing the next. The love scenes are steamy and just right. What a touching story. I hope she makes more of her books an e-book.

I like her historical romances much more than this one. I guess I have an aversion to the F word in normal conversation.

Goodman has taken me for a rollercoaster ride, and what a ride it was! The novel starts out with Mitchell Baker and Thea Wyndham gaining custody of their late best friends’ children. However, Thea is unsure of the children, as her past leaves her feeling unconfident with parenting responsibilities. Mitch takes on the responsibilities full force, knowing he is doing right by his friends. Thea has many ghosts in her closet, but over time, confesses them all to Mitch, who continues to love her through her past. She learns over time that her feelings towards Mitch are of a deep love. She also realizes that she isn’t like her birth parents, and can be a good mother figure to the three children. Goodman has an uncanny sense of humor that had me laughing out loud at times, which is a great sign of a novel. I wanted to sit beside Thea and console her! I wanted to nudge Mitch on and let him know he was doing well. When I am able to put myself into the story, I know I have an excellent plot and story line! Thea and Mitch come together and learn what true love is all about!

BOOK WAS GOOD, i ACTUALLY COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. DRAWS YOU IN. THERE IS ROMANCE IN THERE, BUT A DOWN-TO-EARTH KIND. GOOD STORY UNFOLDS AS YOUR READ ON. I WOULD READ OTHER BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR.

This is the first book I’ve read by this Author. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the fact that this story wasn’t cut and dried. It had a few twists and turns and I found it to be a real page turner. Thea Wyndham and Mitch Baker first met each other at the wedding of their good friends Gabe and Kathy. Mitch was interested in Thea when he met her at the wedding but Thea wasn’t interested in dating Mitch. Over the years they would see each other at functions that Gabe and Kathy invited them to. Both were fond of the children, Emilie, Case and Grant. Suddenly Mitch and Thea are thrown together due to the death of Gabe and Kathy. Gabe and Kathy had written in their Will that if anything happened to them, they wanted Mitch and Thea to share jointly in raising their children. To further complicate things Thea is engaged to Joel Strahern. He is much older than what she is. He absolutely does not want any more children in his life other than his own children and grandchildren. Mitch is dating Regina (Gina) Sommers. She is much younger than Mitch and not too interested in Emilie, Cash, and Grant. Now that Mitch and Thea have joint custody of the children they are spending a lot of time together. Mitch is enjoying this much more than Thea. Will Mitch and Thea ever work out their differences? This is a book that you don’t want to miss!

This story told with heart and soul is an easy read with in depth chacters that you quickly and easily get attached to. I felt it lost a little at the end, had some areas that were wordy and needed to be read quickly, but overall a solid 4 star book.

This is a well written story. I enjoyed it very much; although towards the end it seemed to drag a little. I do not think the second love story line added anything to the telling.

Love all of her stories but especially like that she entered the contemporary genre. Still has the heartfulness of the romance but with a lighthearted humor that was absolutely delightful.

I have a tendency to buy a book and keep it in my library until I want to read it. This one was worth it. Not on the order of her more historical books (which I love)This one is contempory and well written.

A Place Called Home by Jo Goodman The twins parents had died. The guardianship was left to Mitch who is kinda engaged to Regina, and Thea who is engaged to Joel he's 30 years older. Mitch raises the kids with help mostly from his mother and father. Thea stops by once a week to spend a few hours with the kids. There is also an older girl. Neither of them realize that when they leave the kids get so upset as their parents never returned. There's a lot all of them need to learn if they'd just talk and relax it would all work out. How can it tough as Mitch wants to get on with his life also. Thea also has finally opened up to Mitch and told him about her past and her secrets. There are many life crises that occur: unplanned pregnancy, meeting their respective parents, work, kids and moving are all major things that get in the way. Excellent book, pulled at my heartstrings many times over and I still have NO idea what I'd do in the same circumstances.
