Most Helpful Customer Reviews
Alisa Mullen writes with heart, and passion so that the reader experiences a wide range of raw and real expression, having you feel the same emotions as Julia (the heroine). We meet Julie Delaney when she is a naive twelve-year-old, going through the typical growing pains of a young girl, filled with raging hormones, wanting independence, curious about her sexuality, and living through a tragedy in her community, trying to understand it and make sense of it all. The book takes us through different stages of Julia's life, as she grows into a beautiful, talented young woman, and has become a successful rock star. Through each stage of Julia's life, her perception of life, men and of herself changes, and her voice is sassy, snarky and humorous. Underneath it all, she is still that young girl trying to make sense of what life has dealt her, and struggling with demons from her past. I didn't always agree with Julia's choices, there were times when I wanted to jump into the book and lecture her, however the author kept Julia's motivations true to her character throughout the book. Julia's actions are driven by her internal struggles, and the way the story unfolds for Julia and the other characters will immediately draw you in and keep you rooted to the story. The author does not shy away from drawing on Julia's bad girl image she is determined to portray to the world. The book is suspenseful (giving you that edge of your seat reading experience, with unexpected twists and turns) raw, sexy, edgy, humorous, sad, romantic and filled with angst (a smorgasbord of emotions). PLASTIC CONFIDENCE is well written, the characters (Brennan Curtis, the hero along with the other characters) are well developed and the story moves at a good pace, keeping the reader invested and connected to each character and their journey. I really enjoyed this story, the author's style, her voice and I look forward to reading more of her work.
This was such a great story! It had me laughing, crying, angry, and I loved every minute of it. Mullen got my attention right from the start and I found myself up late because I couldn't put it down. The twist and turns in the book kept me on my edge of my seat. I can't wait to read more from Mullen.
