Punk, garage, psychedelic, and stoner rock. Over the course of rock history, not many bands can say that they've specialized in a sound that embraces all four aforementioned genres, but Plastic Crimewave Sound is not your average, ordinary band. Hailing from Chicago, the four-man group certainly kicks out the jams throughout their 2008 self-titled release. Don't expect airtight song structures though, as some of the songs here sound like they were jammed out on the spot. Although the group's singer, Plastic Crimewave (who nearly pulls an Alice Cooper and goes by almost the same name as his band), is a garage rock-esque shouter, the music is best described as a modern-day take on Lemmy-era Hawkwind. Light up the lava lamp, burn some sweet smelling incense, and crank up such mind-expansive tunes as "Dead Island Boogie" and "The Pasture" to get the full Plastic Crimewave Sound effect.
