Play Me #3: Play Me Hard by Tracy Wolff

No one ever said love is easy. In the third installment of an eBook original serial from the New York Times bestselling author of Ruined and Addicted, Aria and Sebastian discover that building trust might be harder than they ever imagined.

My name is Aria Winston. I’ve fought desperately to escape the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas. Now I’m on my own, in control of my own life and my own destiny . . . just the way I like it. Until Sebastian Caine changes everything.

Ever since taking Aria under his wing and into his seductive domain, Sebastian hasn’t been able to think straight. Their chemistry is intoxicating. Their power exchange is exhilarating. And the sex leaves them both absolutely exhausted. But if there’s one thing Sebastian does know, it’s that he needs to protect this strong yet vulnerable woman. Because she has depths that are unknown—even to her. Aria has worked hard to establish herself as anything but submissive. That isn’t who she is, or who she wants to be. So why does it feel so sweet to give up control . . . and so intense when Sebastian takes care of needs she doesn’t even realize she has? But he has needs of his own—and secrets that run just as dark and deep as Aria’s.

Play Me is intended for mature audiences. Aria and Sebastian’s story continues in Play Me: Real.

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tracy Wolff wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—in second grade, around the same time she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. A one-time English professor with over fifty novels to her name, she now devotes most of her time to writing romance and dreaming up heroes. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her family.

“Why don’t you have a seat,” he tells me, gesturing to the two chairs in front of his desk.

It’s the reminder I need to shock my brain back into focus. Finally. Sticking my chin in the air, I make sure I sound firm—or as firm as any woman can after she’s just been caught, held and caressed by her boss’s boss’s boss’s boss. “I don’t think that will be necessary. I’m just here to pick up my paycheck.”

He lifts his brows then, a quick up and down motion that makes my belly flutter. “Sit down, Aria.” He sounds accommodating but at the same time, I know an order when I hear one. I want to object on general principle—the woman I am now doesn’t follow orders well at all, but I need that money. And a not terrible evaluation. Which is why I bend my knees and sink slowly, painfully into the chair.

He closes the door and I expect him to circle his desk, to sit in the huge, imposing chair that faces the one I’m currently sitting in. But instead, he drops down onto the chair next to me before reaching into his pocket and handing me an envelope.
“I believe this is what you came for.”

I nod without bothering to open it. Instead, I slide it into my purse and move to stand. His hand flashes out, rests gently on my arm as he applies just enough pressure to keep me in my seat.

Heat rushes through me from the contact, my nipples peaking despite my determination to keep this professional. He smiles then, a dark curving of his lips that sends shivers of electricity through me. That makes my body tremble and my breathing erratic.

I shrink back against the chair—a move that’s totally not me—and try to figure out what the hell is going on. He’s not threatening me, there’s nothing predatory or particularly sexual in the way he’s looking at me, the way he’s touching me. And yet my body is lit up like the Strip at midnight, my every cell sparking at nothing more than a casual touch from him.

I don’t get it. I don’t understand why I’m responding like this to Sebastian Caine when I’ve never responded anywhere near this quickly or strongly to another man. Oh, I’ve dated some. I was even engaged, and spent six months of that engagement trying to convince myself that I loved Carlo. And still I never responded like this, so quickly and desperately. Breasts aching, skin burning, sex growing wet.

The oddity of it is enough to keep me in my seat for long seconds, my eyes pinned to his as he stares back. But then fear sets in and I go to stand up again.

Again, he presses me gently but firmly back into the chair. He’s still smiling at me, his face schooled into perfectly pleasant lines. But his eyes are filled with a predatory interest he doesn’t even try to hide.

It worries me. Not because I think he’ll hurt me, not because I don’t think I can handle myself. But because I like it. I like the way he’s looking at me, like the way my body feels under his gaze.

Which is ridiculous—and why I come out swinging. “Look, I don’t know what you think is happening here, Mr. Caine—”

“Sebastian,” he says, interrupting my diatribe. “My name is Sebastian.”

“Good for you. I’m sure somebody probably cares about that, but I only came here for my paycheck and I have it now, so I’m leaving.”

“I wish you wouldn’t.”

“Excuse me?”

“I’d like you to stay for a few minutes and talk to me. See if we can get to the bottom of this mess.”

For a minute I think the mess he’s referring to is us, and the way we’re responding to each other. But then I realize he means the Russian whale, me being fired. And suddenly I’m afraid I’m in for a lot more than I bargained for. I was prepared to fight Richard Caine for my paycheck, was prepared for derision and annoyed condescension. I live every day of my life with it, after all, and have learned to control myself and those situations to the best of my ability.

But this. This is something different. There’s no arrogance on Sebastian’s face, no assumption that I’ll drop to my knees and blow him as a thank-you for my paycheck. No sense that he thinks he can screw me simply because he’s got a corner office on the top floor of Las Vegas’s hottest casino.
That’s not the scary part. I can handle that. Hell, I do handle it pretty much every day of my life. But the rest . . . the rest gets to me. The quiet respect, the obvious interest, the darkness that mirrors my own. I don’t know how to deal with those things, don’t know how I’m supposed to respond. I’m off-kilter, confused, searching for answers when I feel like I don’t even know what questions to ask.

Maybe that’s why I stay instead of running out of here as fast as my feet can carry me.

Because I want to find out—both the questions and the answers.

Aria Winston is hiding out from her past working as a waitress in one of the best casino in Las Vegas. Aria gets put into a situation she cant walk away from and ends up fired. When Sebastian finds out exactly what happened in the casino on his watch he is livid. Not only does Aria get her job back but she gets the hot and sexy Sebastian wanting her in his bed. Although Sebastian and Aria know this is a line they should not cross, the temptation is undeniable. Ok so this is book 3 and I must admit I am hooked. You get a peak into some of Sebastian's secrets and I say peak because when you get the full story in books 4 and 5 you are going to be blown away. Tracy Wolff knows how to keep a reader interested. I want to say at this point im drawn in emotionally to this couple. It's still as hot sexually as the other books but this glimpse at Sebastian connects you just a little bit more to the characters. I have read all 5 books in this series so I don't want to spoil it for anyone. This book was great. I literally read it in an hr. So of course what does a bookaholic like me do at 11pm when I have to work at 7am? I go right on to the next book in the series. Now don't get scared the book was not really short. I can finish a whole book in about 5 or 6 hrs so if you put all the books together it seemed to me that the length equaled about the same as any other book. This is a great book, it is so hot and sexy it's explosive!

3.5 - "I think I know you better than I did three days ago." Stars. Novella three picks up literally where two left off. Sebastian and Aria are starting to understand more about each other, their pasts, and what makes the other tick. Not a huge amount of development in the storyline until right towards the end of this installment. A certain Ethan Frost makes an appearance as well, being a long time friend of Sebastian’s, they have a few things to discuss, and it was nice to see a little of him, while waiting for book three in his own series to be released. Control is a funny thing. The tighter you hold onto it, the less you actually have. As I said the main developments seem to happen later on in this novella, but I am hopping straight onto book four, to see where Tracy takes Sebastian and Aria, after the ’BIG’ revelation at the end of this one. ”You always have a choice with me, Aria.” ARC generously provided via Netgalley, in exchange for the above honest review.

4.5 Stars This is a novella series that is 5 parts. I would recommend reading the below before this one: Play Me #1: Play Me Wild Play Me #2: Play Me Hot Aria and Sebastian are playing a dangerous sexual game. Sebastian is hoping to teach Aria about submission but is she too vulnerable for what he wants her for? Aria needs to keep her guard up but she is just so exhausted between work and Sebastian. But with both of them holding secrets but who is gonna get burnt in the end? I recommend this book.

4 "getting Better" Stars Ok, things are starting to heat up. Luckily this book is not all foreplay, but don't get me wrong...steamy scenes are still there. This book gives us even more snippets of Aria and her family problems and Sebastian and his past. Totally predicted what was gonna happen with Aria's neighbor though I have no clue on the connection. One of the best parts is that Ethan Frost shows up and there is a connection to the craziness that took place in his series. Now off to read book 4 to see what secrets from Sebastian's past are gonna come out. I'm starting to think that we won't be very far time wise when this book series finishes up, but we shall see. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

This installment backs off a bit on the tension between them, but only a bit. Sebastian realizes that Aria lives in a rat-trap, and that rat-trap hides a source of guilt and despair for him.  While the two are drawn to one another, Aria is fighting the connection with all of her past beliefs and history she is conflicted.  On one hand, she feels safe and secure with Sebastian: even only knowing him a few days she is certain he wouldn’t hurt her. Intentionally.  Sebastian is fighting with his disinterest in the casino and his knowledge that what he wants to do with his life: make a difference, is not in his cards – at least while he still wants Aria. His best friend from University appears: Ethan Frost, with a fiancé and a problem, and some secrets are coming to light.  Each story is building tension and characters from one to the next, and answers are slow to reveal. Secrets and their effect on both Aria and Sebastian are a huge stumbling block: these two are only 3 days into a relationship that has become as vital as air.  Wolff’s use of first person combined with the electric attraction and seriously hot sex has these two burning up the charts.  Each installment in this serial is 5 – 6 chapters, a whole book of 250 ish hard to put down pages. I’m not certain I agree with the marketing tactic on this – a single full length book would feel less daunting and frustrating to readers – but overall this was a solid and gripping read – full of tension, emotion and steam.  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Wow all I can say is the plot thickens. A few more secrets are revealed about Sebastian and Aria and a surprise guest turn up. The secrets seem to be dark and deep for both are Sebastian and Aria. I love the interaction and chemistry between these two. I recommend reading this series from the beginning as one starts where the previous left off.

Sebastian takes Aria home. Aria lives in a lower class area of Vegas which does not make Sebastian happy. He wants her safe and protected. Inside her apartment he takes care of her. It's so sweet. Their questions back and forth were fun. After Aria falls asleep, Sebastian leaves her apartment and is shaken by his surroundings....something from his past still haunts him. Aria wakes up and thinks her time with Sebastian was a one night stand. She is very surprised by what she finds and what he tells her. Aria looks out for Janet, on of her neighbors who always seems to be drunk. Janet is still mourning the loss of her son from 10 years ago. Aria goes back to her parent's house to visit Lucy but Lucy left and the housekeeper, Conchita warns her to quickly leave. Too late...Aria sees her father. In the meantime, Sebastian runs into his old friend, Ethan Frost, yes...THAT Ethan Frost! Ethan needs Sebastian's help with something. Wow...it really is something good he needs help with! As they are discussing the matter, Aria bursts in needing to be with Sebastian to make her forget about her father. This part was pretty good! ;) Afterwards, Aria goes to work. At the end of her shift, Sebastian takes her home. As they are walking up to her apartment they see Janet. Janet starts screaming "murderer" at Sebastian. WHAT?

This is the third installment of five. It is again a quick read. Sebastian and Aria spend more time together discovering a little more about each other and talking about their past. You find out more about their secrets and they again have some mind blowing sex. They both sense that this attraction they feel towards one another is special.  Sebastian is turning out to be very swoon worthy. He's falling hard for Aria and has an overpowering need to protect and care for her. Aria tries to push him away but she's unable to deny her feelings for him as well. I'm wondering where the story is going because there seems to be different plots taking place but it is keeping me interested where I want to know how this will end. If you love the erotic stories with lots of "complex" characters and some really good sex scenes - then this is the series to read!! Play Me #3: Play Me Hard by Tracy Wolff is the third book in her 5-part serial, Play Me. "I don't respond well to ultimatums, Sebastian." I've had too many of them in my life, been told too many times that I had real control over my own life when it was nothing but a lie.~ Aria So we once again begin right where the previous book left off. Sebastian issued Aria an ultimatum. Either he was taking her to is place or he was taking her to hers, but HE was taking her, she was NOT going by herself. He is still concerned over the subdrop she is experiencing and takes her back to her apartment to care for her. The plot twists some more when at the aprtment building we learn that Sebastian has been there before. There's a history and it doesn't seem like a good one based on his reaction. He cares for her, takes the spare apartment key, leaves her sleeping and fills her bare apartment full of food that has actual nutition value. She calls him on it, ticked off because she sees it as him exerting more control over her but he talks her down. Her issues cause these sometimes irrational reactions to control issues but every time Sebastian seems to be able to break through the issues, even if just for a short while. Back at Sebastian's casino we are introduced to his friend Ethan Frost (a character in Tracy Wolff's other series Ethan Frost that begins with Ruined). They meet later in Sebastians office and are interrupted by Aria storming in (*chuckles*). Sebastian takes Aria home after her shift but when they are greeted by her drunken neighbor Janet all hell breaks loose. We are so much closer to finding out the secret to why Sebastian is familiar with Aria's apartment building. As we cross the parking lot, I spot Janet sitting on the steps. Even from this distance I can tell that she's drunk, and I turn to warn Sebastian that I'm going to have to try to wrestle her into her apartment. But he's not paying any attention to me at all. Instead, he's staring at Janet like he's seen a ghost. Or the Antichrist. I can't tell which.~ Aria

4.5 stars!! In this next installment we get to know a little bit of Aria's past and then there's the confrontation with her father that sends her running back to Sebastian. And then we finally find out what is so significant about apartment 109 in Aria's building. Which sends into the next book. Another fast paced book that will have you finishing in no time! Now that we know more about Aria and Sebastian, the sex is hotter. There's even a little cameo from a character from another on of Tracy's series. I just wish I would've known how the conversation with Aria and her Father went down that had her running back to Sebastian. *I received a copy of this this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Well, things are getting interesting now. Aria goes home to see her sick sister who isn't home. Big Spoiler. Sebastian has his best friend with fiance come ask him for help. Major Spoiler here. Then Aria busts into the room and jumps him being really upset! And so this episode goes out in a Spoiler! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

:  3.75 stars--PLAY ME HARD is third installment in Tracy Wolff's adult, contemporary, erotic romance PLAY ME series. This is the continuing story of casino owner Sebastian Caine and casino waitress Aria Winston. PLAY ME HARD reveals the connection to Tracy's ETHAN FROST erotic romance series. Ethan Frost and Sebastian Caine are friends and university buddies and Ethan has come to Sebastian looking for help. PLAY ME HARD brings a little more controversy into the storyline as Aria and Sebastian's pasts collide. Aria's need to escape from her father's control sends Aria into the arms of the man she has known only for a few days.  Sebastian’s past will appear in the guise of an old woman whose life has obviously spiralled out of control.  Tracy Wolff continues to build upon the storyline with hints at a dark and dangerous past for our leading couple. With the introduction and cross over of Ethan Frost, there is a familiarity for this reader. There is a major plot point that was left open ended at the end of the last Ethan Frost novel and now it appears that questions will be answered and retribution for a most heinous crime.

I am really enjoying this serial and this installment does not disappoint!! I may have let out a little SQUEE!!! when Ethan Frost makes an appearance. OK a loud long squee - but it's Ethan Frost! In this installment Sebastion and Aria's relationship seems to be developing slowly. She's not quick to trust and he understands this. And the ending OMG! Thank goodness this isn't one of those serials we have to wait a couple weeks for the next installment or the kindle would have hit the wall. This is a good one!
