PLAYGROUND is a wordless picture book about a twenty month old boy, as his imagination colors his world of play. Blowing bubbles becomes a flight on a magic carousel horse, a stuffed dinosaur keeps him safe through the wilderness and a toy train takes him to what he wants the most.
This is my first children's book and is based off my experiences playing with my son, Aidan. I tried to appeal to the things that small toddlers seem drawn to, such as bubbles and stuffed toys and trains. I chose to keep the book solely graphic and image based without words, to reflect the non-verbal world of Aidan. Although he cannot form the words to name things he identifies them and colors them with affection and love.
Throughout his morning at the playground Aidan finds fun and adventure with his toys, but at the end of the day, it is still his parents, and in this case his mom, who makes him the happiest. It is revealed that each toy was on his route to his mother who is watching him from a park bench.
