PLAYING DIRTY (Bad Boys Undercover, # 1) by HelenKay Dimon January 27, 2015 384 pages, approximately Romance: Contemporary, Mystery, Suspense -- -- From the Cover -- --  As an elite Alliance agent—the joint undercover operation of MI6, the British Secret Intelligence Service, and the CIA—Ford Decker lives for the adrenaline. He will sacrifice everything to protect her, then be prepared to walk away from the only woman he's ever loved, even if it breaks him. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- Heat Level: 4 ----- ----- ----- ----- -----   A lab employee and vial of deadly toxin go missing. Chatter of a deadly release is picking up. A mission to acquire the target goes horribly wrong, suspiciously, with too much malfunctioning hi-tech equipment to missing intelligence.     Ford's new landlord is the young employee's cousin. He gets close to her in hopes of gaining intel, or so that was the original plan... under the guise of an IT tech, he's finding it harder and harder to lie to her. Soon enough, his lies will catch up to him. Add to all of that, there's a mole in the Alliance group and a very rich and well-connected  uncle spinning some tall tales. The characters are intriguing and the plot pulls you in with strong dialogue, believable interaction and plenty of dynamics. The flow of the story is smooth, however there are a few small parts that seemed a bit slow or unnecessary. The mystery and thrills continued to the end with virtually no predictability. The conflicts were met with mature and timely resolutions and the conclusion was mostly solid. There were a few minor, secondary threads that were left a little loose, but I would not classify it as open-ended and it definitely did not have a cliffhanger.  Overall, this was a very good book and I enjoyed reading it very much. ----------------- Score: 4.1 Stars: 4 ------------------ Tina J @ Unbound Passion

4.25 stars--PLAYING DIRTY is the first full length installment in HelenKay Dimon’s new contemporary adult Bad Boys Undercover action, suspense romance series focusing on an elite group of former CIA and MI6 operatives known as Alliance. This is agent Ford Decker and property manager Shay Alexander’s storyline The storyline follows Ford’s building relationship with Shay. Undercover as an IT tech and Shay’s newest apartment resident, Ford Decker weaves a seductive trail in the hope of uncovering the whereabouts of Shay’s industrious cousin-a man suspected in the latest terrorist threat against the USA. While Ford seduces his way into Shay’s life and her bed, his team of elite Alliance agents are on the hunt for anything that will lead the Team back to Shay’s cousin. With National security at risk, Ford is willing to risk everything including his relationship with Shay-one that he knows will be destroyed when the truth about his latest assignment is revealed. The relationship between Shay and Ford is highly sexualized, erotic and energetic but it is a relationship that was not authorized and has not been condoned by the people in charge. Everyone knows that Ford has lost his heart to the undercover mark, and there are concerns that Ford will not be able to complete the investigation and his assignment should Shay’s life be threatened.   The secondary and supporting characters include Ford’s team of operatives-all former CIA and MI6 agents whose specialties make for some dangerous friends and comrades.  We also see a little more of CIA operative  Ward Bennett and the love of his life Tasha Gregory whose story was told in the introductory novella RUNNING HOT (December 2014). The world building follows the actions and military like precision of the Alliance Team whose working dynamics are compromised when one of their own turns traitor.  From hidden cameras to secret warehouses, back room negotiations and hidden trackers, the men and women of the Alliance Team know their way around negotiations, terrorist threats and take downs. HelenKay Dimon does another amazing job of introducing the players, the stakes and the behind the scenes struggles of an elite group of warriors who risk their lives to keep the work a safer place.

4 Stars! After reading the novella that starts this series, Running Hot, I jumped at the chance to first full length novel in the series. I have always enjoyed a fast paced, exciting romantic suspense and this story did not disappoint. As with most romantic suspense stories, there were more than a few things that happen in this story that go beyond realistic but I was more than satisfied with this highly entertaining novel. Ford is an Alliance agent, which is similar to a CIA agent. He often finds himself in very dangerous situations and frequently works undercover. He is tasked with the assignment of trying to get information from the suspect's cousin, Shay. The book opens with Ford already working on his undercover assignment - Shay. Shay works as a property manager for her uncle. She has started seeing the new tenant and is unsure of their status, but starts to let Ford into her life more and more and time passes. Not only does Shay have a new man in her life to worry about, she is incredibly worried about her cousin who she has not heard from recently. This book had a lot of action and excellent pacing. I really liked Shay a lot and thought she was an excellent character. She doesn't try to pressure Ford into any kind of relationship and is willing to accept what he has to offer. Ford's character changed depending on his role. I loved Ford's personality anytime he spent time with Shay. I didn't like the fact that he spent a lot of time misleading her but that was part of his job. When Ford was on the job, he seemed tough, competent, but argumentative and not quite as likable. I liked the chemistry between Ford and Shay. It was obvious that Shay had become much more than a job quite early in the book. I thought the story was well written and I absolutely loved the scenes with Ward and Tasha. I would recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. I can't wait to read the next installment in this fast paced series. I received a copy of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss for the purpose of providing an honest review.

I am in love with the Bad Boys Undercover series by HelenKay Dimon. I just finished Playing Dirty, book 1 with Ford and I could not put it down. It is one of those books that had me putting off all other obligations to get to the end. Dimon crafts an engaging story filled with mystery, intrigue, action, romance and smoking hot passion. It has it all! Ford is a member of Alliance that is a bit of a wild card. Yes, he is smart and someone you can rely on but sometimes he veers off course to get things done. Sometimes he doesn't keep his superiors in the loop. He keeps the black ops team he leads on their feet. He is loyal to all of those he cares about and will stop at nothing to protect his country and do his job. Well, there is one thing he found he is willing to sacrifice his job over. Shay. She started out as a means to find her cousin but Ford was not prepared for the smart, sexy, independent landlord. She totally has him off his game. I absolutely loved how Dimon writes her romantic scenes. The intimate scenes were all unique and different and continued to show us the love Ford and Shay had for one another, even before they realized it. Dimon is a rock star at writing those passionate love making scenes. Just the right amount of show and tell. I enjoyed seeing Ward and Tasha from Running Hot, the novella that starts the series off, in Playing Dirty. The interaction between all the Alliance members was fascinating and really added to the story. I can only hope to see more of the boys in future stories. It's why I love to read series books. If you are looking for a fast paced, sexy romantic suspense, give Playing Dirty a try, but be sure you have plenty of time carved out to read it because you won't want to put it down.

Sometimes I think the reviews from the "I got it free group" is all smoke and mirrors. The story line was tough to folloe as it jumped all over the place before getting to the point. There were several times a passage just ended and there was no transition to the next page. Overall I liked the concept and the characters. I just wish the story moved along better. 3*

Ford is part of a secret organization that works where others can't. Former CIA he goes undercover to catch a scientist who has developed a deadly toxin. He moves in next door to the scientists cousin Shay. Shay manages her uncles rental buildings and is very wary of men. But Ford blew past all her defenses and worked his way into her heart. Something he wasn't supposed to do. But it all comes crashing down when her cousin takes her hostage in a museum. Can she forgive him for lying to her and deceiving her. It took me awhile to get into this story but once I did I couldn't put it down.

Shay is a job, but immediately becomes more than that to Ford. His desire to protect her is as strong as his desire to have her. The plot is intriguing and suspenseful, easy to follow, but also very fast paced. I highly recommend, so far it's been a great series!

4 star I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, betrayal, secrets, suspense, twists and heartbreak. This is Shay and Ford’s story. Ford is working undercover. He was attracted to Shay right from the start and is now in a relationship with her. That relationship could be the end of them both. For one he should not be getting cozy with her as he is investigating her cousin. Another point not in his favor is she is a job. Shay believes Ford is exactly what he seems that is until the secrets come out. Can Ford fix was the lies and secrets have broken? Or will it be too late as she is already in too much danger for him to save her? I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this series.

Great book! Action from beginning to end - in and out of the bedroom. Even though Ford is lying to Shay about who he really is, you know that their relationship is real. Of course that doesn't mean that Shay won't be hurt, but Ford is pretty hard to resist. If you read the prequel novella, you'll enjoy seeing Ward and Tasha again.  Can't wait for the next team member to fall in love - even Harlan.  4.5 stars ARC provided via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! This book is a thrill ride! It sucks you in from the very first moment and doesn’t stop until the last page. The storyline is along the lines of the Shield, so I was a little worried that it would end up being cliché. However, the author really did a fantastic job of keeping it down to earth, much more believable. Along with the action and steamy moments, the author also had me chucking several times at the dry wit of the characters. Ford is faced with a pretty impossible situation. He falls for Shay almost immediately and therefore, can’t bring himself to be taken off of the assignment, even though he knows the longer he carries on with the lies, the less likely it is she will forgive him. He the best kind of hero in a novel. An ingrained sense of justice, a protector, and just a little bit of a rule breaker. But, he also, deliciously sexy, caring, sweet, and loving. His struggle in merging all of those characteristics is one of the things that makes him more realistic and draws the reader in. Shay is one of the most solid female heroines I’ve encountered in a novel. I don’t mean this is a negative way, but there is nothing really special about her. She works hard, loves her family, and lives her life day to day, just like most of the world. It’s this ordinariness that connects the reader with Shay because she seems so real. As a person, I would want to be friends with her and that says a lot about the character. She has a positive outlook on life, isn’t whiney, and though her trust issues were a tad frustrating for me, I had to admit, they were totally warranted.  The book is definitely full of nonstop action and while the storyline was just the slightest bit predictable, the author threw in a few twists and turns that kept me guessing. The love story is sweet and steamy, soft moments to rest from all the intensity in the rest of the book. This is apparently the first in a series and I’ll be watching for the following books as well as looking into this author’s other works!

## BORING. It took too long to get to the point. Not to mention, the plot jumped around too much, it was hard to tell what was happening now and what was in the future. Can't recommend.
