Phoenix's story was very heart warming and compelling all at the sametime. The story behind everything was hard to read at tkmes. Like how could so many people be brainwashed into cults? I've heard stories about this type of thing, but never understood that whole compelling drama. Max and Nix's love story was quite breathtaking and I would recommend this story to be read alone or as the series follows,so you understand who everyone is. I've read all your books this far and really enjoyed this one too. So e times it's nice to hear others happy endings and K own that true love finally follows hardships. That love will prevail. Keep them coming and hurry with Cades story I'm already guessing who cat woman is, she needs someone too!!! I won't spoil it by revealing her name, but I have a feeling I'm right!

Feels good to be back in New Hope and on what seems to be a never ending journey to new love and great beginning. I can’t say it enough, I absolutely infatuated with Lexi Ryan’s writing and the characters that she creates. Playing with Fire follows Dr. Phoenix “Nix” Reed, who on the outside appears to be one of the few that’s not only confident, but possibly may have herself together as well Of course things are never what they appear to be. Nix has a past that she’s been running from for many years and now that past just may have found her. While Nix is far from a damsel she just so happens to have “Stallion” better know as Max Hallowell. I’m not sure what it is about Max, but it seems love for him is like finding a leprechaun riding an unicorn. He’s a devoted father and genuinely a guy. I will admit I was never #TeamMax when it came to Hanna, but it doesn’t take away that this guy deserves someone that appreciative of his huge heart. With all romance there was some drama and much resistance. At times things started to look as if they were going to fall apart beyond repair, but of course this is the small town of New Hope were odds have been beaten before. Only question is will hope prevail for Nix and Max? As I have mentioned before I very much enjoy Lexi’s writing, her style keeps me fulling enage from the moment I start page 1 up until the very last page. At times her awesome writing causes me to neglect some other things like sleep or skipping out on a workout because I refuse to put my Nook down. Playing with Fire is told with a dual POV (uer New Hope stories, which was actually a pallet cleaners. While Max and Nix’s story was very much romance and erotic, it was also had that edge of your seat suspense. I cannot forget you are not left with a cliffhanger. Yesss!!! I repeat NO CLIFFHANGERS HERE BOYS AND GIRLS, but things are left to open up the for the next title of the Mended Hearts series Holding Her Close, which I will be present for.

Lexi Ryan is an author with sooooo much talent! The way she tells the stories of her characters is very unique and never fails transporting the right kind of feelings. This was also the case with this book. In combination with the emotional and touching characters, reading this book did a lot of things to me.... Sometimes it's very difficult to describe why a book touches you the way it does which I also can't really do with this book. There is this special way the story is told...the story of characters who deserved a stand alone. So everbody who reads this book or everybody who is going to read it- be prepared!!

A Review of Playing With Fire by Lexi Ryan The Phoenix always rises - 5+++ stars Lexi has done it again. This is the first book of a new series, but with some of the characters that we already know. We caught a little glimpse of Nix and Max together in Sam and Lexi's book, so I was really excited to see where this went. Even though we 'knew' Nix from previous books, there was a lot about her that we didn't know. Everyone has their own hang-ups and pasts that they want to forget, but sometimes it seems like we are doomed to re-live those times we would rather forget ever happened. After everything that happened with Hanna, Max is finally ready to move on with his life and 'date' again. One night of passion with the hot Doc was enough for him to realize that he wanted more with her, but unfortunately, Nix is running scared. She avoids relationships because she has been badly hurt in the past, which she never talks about with anyone in New Hope. Does Max just have a savior complex or do his feelings for Nix go deeper? Can Nix let go of her past and move on with one of the good guys? There are a lot of twists and turns in this book that kept me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the book, but that's what makes Lexi's writing so AMAZING. She draws you in and doesn't let go of you until you read that last page. I would definitely recommend this new series to anyone that has ever read any of her New Hope books. You will NOT be disappointed! **I was lucky enough to win a Complimentary Copy of the book, provided by the Author for an honest review AND I bought it!**

There are spoilers if you have not read the prior New Hope stories especially the Here and Now series.... Max and Nix... This was such an amazing and emotional story. Max has had much heartache as we have seen after Hannah chose Nate, but he is an amazing father as he raises his daughter. Nix moved to New Hope to escape her past and she guards those secrets, especially after she has lost one love after telling him the truth. Max and Nix have a solid chemistry that Nix is not willing to give in to as she can't go through that again. However, Nix's past seems to be catching up to her as things start popping up and she finds safety in Max. Will these two be able to truly escape Nix's past and let the chemistry they have ignite? Will her past take her away from Max and New Hope altogether? This is an amazing suspenseful love story that keeps you guessing until the end. I love all that Lexi has poured into all the New Hope stories!

‘Playing with Fire’ brings us back to ‘New Hope’ with a whole new tale to tell. Although this stories set amongst characters known and loved to readers of Lexi Ryan’s work, don’t let that put you off. This is a stand-alone book and if this is your first, it definitely won’t be your last! There is such a mix of mystery, danger and intrigue that once you pick this up you won’t be able to put it down. I have never been so desperate to get to the end of a book just to know how it’s going to conclude, I normally try to savour every word but I just couldn’t. I had to read it to know the how’s and why’s and then re-read at a more leisurely pace to take it all in fully! It introduces us properly to Nix, or Dr Phoenix Reid to give her, her proper title. Although she’s been briefly mentioned in previous books, as a friend of the Thomson sisters and a doctor at the local hospital, she’s never given a lot away before. That’s where Max Hallowell steps in. The all-around good guy, who keeps getting his heart trampled on while searching for his happy ever after. He just can’t help trying to save damsels in distress and in Nix does he see another one? What starts as a mad moment of passion quickly spirals into a turbulent, nightmare. Full of shadows from the past rearing their heads to try and reclaim what they think is rightfully theirs. Can Max and Nix help save each other, one from their past becoming their present once more and the other from letting their present slip into the past? My only wish was that I could start it all over again – I loved every word, thank you Lexi.

All I can say is WOW! Just when I think Lexi Ryan can't top her last book...she goes and does it AGAIN! Max and Nix's story had me on the edge of my chair most pages while I was trying to put together the pieces of the story. This story was so compelling I whined when I had to put the book down to attend to my real life. I felt this story was told so well that I could see it coming to life in my mind while reading it. Great Book and Incredible Author!!! I don't give spoilers as I don't like being told the story before I have had a chance to read it. All I can say is hurry and order this book ASAP! So good I didn't want it to end. Now I sit impatiently for Lexi Ryan's next book......... Patricia Greco
