Excellent, Romantic Novella! I purchased my copy of Plus One on release day yet never even loaded it onto my Nook. I wasn't reading at the time and definitely wasn't in the mood for any kind of romance as I was deep in the I-Have-An-Infant-And-Never-Get-To-Sleep mode. Months later, I was looking for something quick to read while on vacation and finally loaded up my copy of Brighton's novel. I didn't put it down until I had hit the final page. The book opens with the main female character, Olivia, in the middle of a ridiculously bad date, which appears to be a repetitive issue for her. At the ripe old age of thirty-two, she's beginning to wonder if Mr. Right (or even Mr. Right-Now) is out there, while also trying to figure out how to not end up dateless for the nine upcoming weddings she has invitations for. Having passed that magical moment of "OMG How did I become a spinster already and why are all my friends getting married right now?" I totally understood the pressure and anxiety she felt in this situation. Even if I hadn't passed (and survived, I might add) that milestone, Olivia's voice comes through loud and clear on the page. Brighton writes a main character with spunk and sass, one who knows who she is and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. She's relatable, adorable and had me laughing out loud more than once. Now let's talk about Ian, shall we? Olivia's best friend's younger brother, Ian has been one of her closest friends for most of her life. He's funny, handsome, charming and completely, madly in love with a clueless Olivia. He also happens to be sexy and flirtatious, but we get to that a bit later. Ian left town to move beyond his childhood crush, but agreeing to be Olivia's "plus one" for all of the weddings she needs dates for brings back all those old feelings. The longing, the confusion, the want...Ian's unrequited love is a true gut-knotter. You can feel how much he loves Olivia through his thoughts and words, and you just want to crawl into the pages and play matchmaker for the couple. Unfortunately, he has no idea how to move their relationship from great-friends to great-in-bed...but after a few weeks of cocktails and other people's wedding vows, he's willing to try. The sexual tension between these two simply skyrockets as the book progresses. Every touch, every dress, every dance...it all builds up, setting and keeping a fast pace through words so pretty, you'll be cheering out loud for these two to get together. Every sentence, every bit of witty banter between these two, leads up to Olivia and Ian pushing their relationship so far out of the friend zone, they may never find their way back. At least we all hope they don't. I gave this a five star rating on Goodreads. It's an adorable story with a strong female lead and a swoony male counterpart. Plus One is sweet and charming and will leave you wishing this was just the beginning of a series so you could see more of Olivia and Ian as they navigate the not-just-friends-zone together. This is definitely a go, run, buy - NOW! kind of book.

What a nice surprise! You get exactly what the synopsis says and know from the beginning that the guy wants more than friendship. No surprises here. Yet the book is so well written that it really sucks you in. It is a short but sweet love story, with a few steamy scenes, all flowing smoothly. The characters are very believable and is easy to relate to them. And the hero is absolutely fantastic. Forget about billionaires and exaggerated alpha males: this guy is the real thing. I highly recommend the book.

After reading two of Brighton Walsh's full-length novels in a week's time, I found myself with a horrific book hangover. The only way to fix it was to read MORE of her books, so I dove into her backlist. Plus One sounded like a fun, romantic book and it came highly-recommended by several of my friends so naturally it was the one I picked up first. Boy I'm glad I did!  I find standalone novellas difficult sometimes because it's tough for me to form an attachment to the characters and get what I feel is a full story from them in such few pages. That definitely was not the case with this one. I had no trouble connecting to both Olivia and Ian, and getting totally engrossed with their story. Who doesn't love a good friends to lovers story? Or a crush on a friend's sibling story? I got both here and it made me all kinds of happy. I really enjoyed that, in this book, it was the man who harbored the unrequited crush on his female friend. You don't see that all that often.  I really liked both Olivia and Ian. It was fun to watch their friendship begin to transform into something different as Ian accompanied her to a seemingly unending chain of weddings. They shared great chemistry and there was loads of sexual tension. When they finally gave in, it was hot. And, at the same time, it was easy to see how much they felt for the other and understand their concerns about putting a strain on their friendship. But, some things are worth the risk.  Plus One was an excellent novel. The story was short, sweet and sexy, but still felt complete. I mean, I wouldn't stay more to another dose of Olivia and Ian because I'm a greedy, greedy reader, but I'm also satisfied by how everything wrapped up here. Brighton Walsh continues to do no wrong!

I tend to avoid novellas.  They often tend to not to have a full story in them. I have to say that Plus One totally didn’t fit that. Plus  One was so much fun in such a short little story! I loved it! Of course being a novella we didn’t get a lot of the characters back story, but I was okay with that,it cut straight to the meat of the romance! Olivia was cute and fun. Ian was hot and has been in love with Olivia for years.  When she starts talking about needing a ‘plus one’ for a series of upcoming weddings, Ian surprises both of them and volunteers! Turns out that he isn’t as over Olivia as he thought! Short and fun, this one was great and a total quick and easy read. Perfect for that light fun read at night when you need something to unwind with before bed!

After a miserable string of bad dates, Olivia is fed up. But she has a bunch of weddings coming up and doesn't want to go alone. In steps her good friend, Ian, who also happens to be her best friend's brother. What she didn't expect was to be so attracted to him. Now Ian needs to convince her he wants to be her plus one for life. This was a short novella, but packed a punch. The quick wit writing and humor were the right blend, and the sudden attraction between two people who've known each other all their lives was believable. I had a hard time putting it down. The setting, details and secondary characters only added to the charm. Highly recommended!

Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews I have to start off by saying this book was SO much more than I expected. Looking at the cover, I thought that it was going to be a sweet little friends to lovers romance... Oooooohhhhh no! Plus One is a sweet little romance, but it has HOT STEAMY moments that don’t require you to use your imagination. Olivia Winters and Ian Donnelly have known each other for twenty years. In fact, Olivia and Ian’s sister, Emma are best friends. Growing up, it was always the three of them. The book starts off with Olivia continuing her track record of having one of the worst dates ever. She has the standard setup of of having Emma call her during her dates to make sure things are going okay. On this particular day, instead of Emma calling it’s Ian. Over the course of the phone call, Olivia mentions that she has several weddings and wedding type events to attend. Ian immediately offers to be her plus one so she isn’t stuck with either going alone or having to endure more horrible dates. Unbeknownst to Olivia, Ian has had a crush on her since they were kids. At some point during adulthood, his feelings became love. In an attempt to protect his heart, Ian moved away from Olivia and his family. Ian tried to move on with his life, but for him, Olivia was ALWAYS his ONE. When the chance to take their relationship further arises, Ian is more than happy to take it. This is a story where you have two people who obviously love and care for each other but don’t want to damage the friendship they’ve spent years building. Olivia, Emma, and Ian are all people you are going to love falling in love with. Source: NetGalley

Plus One is a funny, contemporary romance that has very realistic characters and a lot of laugh till you cry moments. Olivia is the main character of the story and she has gone on one bad date too many. Olivia feels that she is doomed to be alone forever. During one of her disastrous dates she makes a phone call to her best friend Emma to come and rescue her, but she gets her brother Ian. Olivia has know Emma and Ian for twenty years, they have always been there for you through thick and thin. So when Ian offers to be her Plus One to the nine weddings she was attending she only hesitated for a moment before agreeing. Throughout their journey to these nine crazy weddings, Olivia and Ian start to form a connection that goes beyond friendship. Can Olivia see Ian as anything more then her best friends little brother? Olivia may have met her match… Brighton Walsh has a way with writing that puts you completely at easy. It all just feels so natural. Olivia is a strong character that has had some pretty rotten luck in the man department. When she starts to see more in her relationship with Ian, she is shocked to be having the thoughts that she has. But every time they dance, every time the touch, she feels like she is holding her breath, waiting. The comedy, the romance, and the undeniable power of friendship make this story very fulfilling. This is one book that you will want to read over and over! I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute, sweet novella. I've always enjoyed the "friends to lovers" troupe. Add in the fact that one of the characters has been secretly in love with the other for years AND is the younger brother of her best friend, and I was sold! (It's always been a dream of mine to have an older brother with cute, date-able friends. Alas, it was not to be. Hence, fiction. But I digress....) I really enjoyed this quick read. It was exactly what I was looking for to fill a few weekend hours. I liked Brighton Walsh's voice a lot, and will definitely be looking into more of her works. Both Ian and Olivia were completely believable as characters, and their relationship developed nicely. I think it's easier to have a believable relationship develop in a novella when the characters have a history; Walsh gave us just what we needed of their backgrounds to offer motivation, but did not get us bogged down in the past. Dare we hope for a story for Emma (Ian's brother and Olivia's BFF?)  (I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.)

This was a fun novella that is the perfect length to read in between longer books. It is light, entertaining, sweet, and very hot. I read it in under 24 hours and was engaged by the characters from the beginning. The friends to lovers plot is always a fun one because the solid relationship is already established. Brighton does a wonderful job of developing both Ian and Olivia in such a short book. Sometimes that can be hard in a novella, but I think she pulled it off nicely. Deciding to cross the friends line is always a hard one, especially when you are not sure how the other person feels. I really sided with Ian in this book. He tried so hard to keep his feelings private to maintain the close friendship he had with Oliva, but wanted so much more. However, it was time for Olivia to wake up and notice the man in front of her. Ian is very sweet and not overly alpha which is a nice change to read about. He is exactly what Olivia needs. I was a little surprised at how hot the intimate scenes were in Plus One. I was expecting more of a sweet, clean romance based on the cover and it being advertised as a contemporary romance.  I will say that the intimate scenes were very well written and fit the characters. I just think the category of this book pushes the lines of contemporary romance and could be classified as erotic romance. Some of the descriptions were just a little more, well, descriptive. I am not sure if this is going to be a series, but if so, I would love to read more about Emma, Olivia's best friend and Ian's sister. She sounds like a girl who knows exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. If you are looking for a fun, contemporary romance story about friends to lovers that is both sweet and very sexy, I recommend you read Plus One!

What a fun, sweet story! After a string of horrible dates, Olivia resorts to dragging her long-time friend, Ian, along with her to a series of upcoming weddings. Ian goes willingly, happy to be tagging along as Olivia's 'plus one' just for the chance to be spending some time with her. The more time they spend together, though, the harder it is to hide growing the attraction between them. The characters in this story were fun and quite developed for the short length of the novella. Oliva and Ian were great together, and the banter between them was quite entertaining. The chemistry between Olivia and Ian was evident from the beginning, and the buildup of tension between them was amazing, making the sex scenes super steamy. If you are looking for something light and fun, this is a must!

Funny, sweet contemporary romance. Olivia is thirty two and tired of dating Mr. Wrong. She is bright, moderately successful and pretty. Why oh why can’t she find a decent guy? She has decided to give up the dating scene but unfortunately she has a series of weddings to attend and there is nothing more depressing than attending a wedding solo. Ian is Olivia’s best friends brother. She has known and been friends with him forever so when he offers to be her plus one she accepts. What she doesn't expect is the attraction she feels for Ian. Can friends become lovers without it costing them a lifelong friendship? Do they dare to find out? I can so totally relate to Olivia. No woman wants to go solo to a wedding. At a certain age all your friends start to get married and you are either in the bridal party or a guest. This quick friends to lovers story goes to more than that and is sweet as can be.
