A wonderful thing about good literature is that the writer transports you to a different world through the eyes of a different person. As you read a poem from “Points of Interest” by William Ogden Haynes, you wear another’s clothes, think another’s thoughts, and become another person. Perhaps you are the man whose mind lives in World War II and whose ninety-year-old body resides in a rest home, perhaps your home has been destroyed by a Tuscaloosa tornado, or perhaps you sit on the front porch and wickedly daydream of spectacular ways to leave your wife. These poems are good literature, and Haynes is a gifted writer. Enjoy.
