You would think that by now that I  would have lost some of the excitement I feel when I see that there is a new Elemental Assassin book out but not a bit. This series continues to pull me in and often keeps me reading way, way into the night. Even though murder is the word of the day, these books have an even flow that makes them an easy one day read. I do feel they are getting a bit repetitive in the action and hope that Estep mixes it up more as they are getting pretty predicable. I miss the twists that I had come to expect from this story and though we get a bit closer to solving the Mab Monroe mystery, it’s not near as exciting as it once was. The characters seemed a bit one dimensional this time around which was really disappointing. They just didn’t have the fire and depth that I have come to expect from Estep.

Plenty of action continues in the Elemental Assassin series. If you have never read this series I highly reccomend starting with the first in the series and read forward. You will not be disappointed.

I've loved this entire series but Poison Promise is maybe my favorite book in the whole series. Gin is at the top of her game in this one. Gin has her hands full protecting one of her waitresses who witnesses a crime and is now in a bad guys cross hairs. Not only that but there's a new drug and a new villain in town, a mysterious somebody who is following her around and lurking in the shadows, and on top of that she has to deal with Bria in crazy revenge mode and her judgmental attitude. I think Gin was the strongest and toughest that I've seen her so far. When she goes after the bad guys this time, she REALLY goes after the bad guys. She's not questioning her decisions as much as she usually does and I really like that. I also like the fact that shes tired of taking crap from the crime bosses that keep pushing her and she's ready to kick some ass. Lots of action in this one and a nice sex scene with the delicious Owen thrown in, because you just GOT to have a sex scene with Owen. Outstanding 11th. book in the series. Can't wait for more.

Can you believe it? Poison Promise is book 11 in the series.  11!!  And the series is still going strong, not a waiver in sight. It doesn't seem like that long ago I was picking up the first book in the series, Spider's Bite, because I loved the idea of a female assassin. Gin is smart, ruthless, yet able to retain her femininity. She looks at her job in an almost wholly masculine way - someone is going to kill them for money, it might as well be her. Yet, she's not a sociopath, she retains her empathy.  She is a most perfect, imperfect roll model for women in the urban fantasy genre. I will admit, I was a bit concerned after The Spider, book 10 and major flashback story, to how Gin got started. Would this book be able to continue the momentum? Really, how much more of the story is there to tell. Gin has killed the bad guys and gals, gotten her man, found her sister. Where else can the story go? Let me just say, a resounding Yes!, there is more story to be told.  We have only scratched the surface of Gin's relationship with her sister Bria. Finally we are getting beyond the honeymoon stage of their relationship as they learn exactly what being on opposite sides of the law truly means to their relationship.  Additionally, it becomes time to take Gin's coming out as the Spider to the next level.  Her identity has become an open secret, but she hadn't publicly claimed the name yet. All this, plus the action and bad guys seem to amp up further in this new book. For fans of the series, this book doesn't disappoint. I gave it 4 stars.

4.5 stars--POISON PROMISE is the eleventh instalment in Jennifer Estep’s paranormal/urban fantasy Elemental Assassin series focusing on assassin Gin Blanco-aka The Spider. Gin is tired of the numerous attempts on her life; the killings; and the threats against her friends and family-but a new drug dealer in town has set his sights on Gin’s sister Bria and Gin is in no mood to stand by and watch the fall out from a new designer drug taking down most of Ashland and Southtown’s addicts and users.  Told from first person POV (Gin) the premise follows Gin as she, once again, must step in and stop a menace that is known as Beauregard Benson-a vampire with a special ability that leaves his victims a shell of their former selves. As the latest drug king pin, Benson likes to make his presence known, and in this, most of the people (humans, vampires, giants, dwarves and elementals) keep their distance lest they too, become a casualty of Benson’s secret powers. As Gin focuses on taking Benson down, she will become a victim of Benson’s tyrannical need to control the town of Ashland. The secondary characters include all of the people and supernaturals close to Gin –Owen (Gin’s lover); Finn (Gin’s adopted foster brother and BFF); Jo Jo and Sophia (Dwarves); Bria (Ashland cop and Gin’s irritating sister) as well as Phillip, Eva, Roslyn, Xavier and more.  The reader will be introduced to a soon-to-be new member of Gin’s team-a vampire and former nemesis whose motives are questionable until the truth is revealed. Gin’s past will come back with a vengeance – a second generation of supernaturals hoping for a piece of The Spider-and in this the next storyline is about to unfold-Black Widow (Elemental Assassin #12). Jennifer Estep continues to pull the reader into a graphically violent, addicting and detailed series about a reluctant and complicated female assassin who wants nothing more than to spend her days working at the Pork Pit and her nights in the arms of her lover. Jennifer keeps the reader engaged with flashbacks, memories and recounting of previous storyline scenarios that further draw the reader into a series where The Spider will always come out on top but getting there is dangerous and messy. POISON PROMISE is the build up to, and introduces the next ARC in Jennifer Estep’s intense and compelling Elemental Assassin series. Gin may have thought that taking down Mab Monroe ended that chapter in her life-think again-someone even more dangerous has taken up residence in Ashland and considers The Spider and everyone she knows- fair game in a war of power and control. No one will be safe with the new dealer in town. If you are a fan of urban fantasy storylines with a kick-a$$ heroine who knows a thing or two about pain and suffering then Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series and POISON PROMISE should be your go-to series when the UF cravings take hold.

4.5 Stars ~Reviewed by ANN & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Very rarely do you find a series that gets better with each instalment. In book eleven of the Elemental Assassin series, POISON PROMISE delivers a refreshingly action-paced story featuring Urban Fantasy’s favourite assassin. Gin Blanco continues to kick ass in this book but when her sister and cop, Bria gets her thoughts muddled on trying to capture the latest bad guy on her list, Gin wants her sister to know that taking out the bad guy isn’t just about killing, it’s also about thinking about the victims as well. Estep places an emphasis on the crimes of Beauguard. I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed the villains in this series but so far, the current ones are my favorites. With their strong motivations, you come to believe each character despite the fact that you’re supposed to be on Gin’s side. When you have that great of a character opposite your heroine, you’re bound to have igniting tension in every scene. Gin is faced with a proposition that definitely spices things up for her. I think this decision shows off Estep’s expert planning. Not only is each instalment fresh with its own twists and turns, but the characters remain original and the series as a whole still has places that has yet to venture to. Additionally, Gin continues to impress me more and more. Whenever I read an Elemental Assassin book, it doesn’t seem far off from a James Bond flim. As a fan of both, I think Estep has all the right elements in all the right places. The balance is hard to strike, but I feel that Estep excels at it with this series. POISON PROMISE is a lethal strike of ass-kicking action, mischief, that signature badassness that readers expect from Gin Blanco. *ARC provided by publisher

Poison Promise by Jennifer Estep is the 11th book in her fabulous Elemental Assassin series. The amazing thing is after 10 books, you think it can’t get better. Well I can safely say, YES it can. Poison Promise is a fantastic addition to this series. Our heroine, Gin Blanco, is another one of my favorite kick-ass female protagonists, and I have a few. Gin is an assassin, named The Spider, who is not only tough & lethal; she is loyal to her family/friends, a great cook, sexy, and snarky when she needs to be. Gin is also a stone elemental, with powerful magic to help her beat the bad guys. 10 books later, everyone now knows the identity of The Spider, which causes Gin to have to fight off thugs, vampires, and anyone else who think killing The Spider will help will give them the glory they want. In Poison Promise, Gin faces one of her toughest battles against an elemental villain, who uses and sells drugs, as well as siphons the emotions and blood from his victims. When Gin rescues one of her restaurant employees from an attack, and then witnesses the murder of the attacker, she knows this villain could be the worst one yet. She trys to avoid getting involved, which does not last long, when her sister Bria becomes involved, and we all know that Gin will do anything to protect her inner circle. There are so many things that happen in this story, including a harrowing experience for Gin at the hands of the villain, and meeting new characters that will be part of future books. With that in mind, I will not give spoilers. What follows is an immensely exciting story of a powerful villain, illegal drugs, non-stop action, danger and a wild exciting ride to the finish. Besides Gin, the wonderful secondary characters, who are all part of Gin’s circle, play major roles in this story, and they are another reason this is a wonderful series. Note to Jennifer Estep…….please do not end this series anytime soon.
