A true find for Police fans, Strontium 90 is the early recordings made by what can essentially be called the 'Proto-Police'. Comprised of the three members of the classic Police line up (Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland and Sting), and augmented by ex-Gong member Mike Howlett, this album of archival material is a real wonder. Of course, the biting precision of the Police is all over this record, but with a slightly different and punkish intensity. It's fabulous. Sting's vocals are as well-defined as they would be on the more polished, professional Police recordings, and the same goes for Summers' guitar work and Copeland's multi-layered drumming. An added bonus to this record is a solo demo recording by Sting of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic." Cut almost ten years before the Police's hit version, you can tell that Sting (AKA Gordon Sumner) knew that he had a winner here, and it's warm charm will capture the heart and mind of every Police fan. If you like the Police, you need this record.
