Portal 24
A tense and thrilling time travelling action-adventure

When teen con-artist Darius is approached by a mysterious government agent about joining a 'Project Oberon', he has no idea what to expect. Certainly not that Project Oberon is actually a top-secret experiment which sends teens back through time to prevent disasters before they happen!

Before Darius has time to wonder why he's been chosen, his first mission arrives in the form of a huge electromagnetic weapon of mass destruction, which will kill millions of people in New York - unless Darius and the team can stop it. They're confident; it's all in a day's work for these teen wonders, but what they don't bet on is evil mastermind Ludd. And what they don't know is that Ludd knows the deadly secret behind Project Oberon. If Darius and the gang don't make it back to the portal within twenty-four hours, then they'll be lost in time forever...

About the Author

Meredith Stroud lives in Chattanooga, TN with her partner/accomplice. She graduated with an English degree from the University of Tennessee in 2010, where she was published in the SEQUOYAH REVIEW. She spends most of her free time whipping up biscuits for hipsters, helping her friends pretend to be elves, and raising a little girl who insists she is actually a car.

Darius nodded, still a little bit in shock. 'What are the rules?' he said after a moment.

'Come again?' Leon said through a mouthful of chili.

'The rules. Time travel always has rules, right? I assume there's one about us all being young.' At everyone's stare, he shrugged. 'Otherwise why would they recruit a bunch of teenagers to solve world disasters?'

'You're right.' Constance nodded, her cheeks rosy from the spicy food. 'The older the time traveler, the more damage the jump does to their body. Anyone older than their early thirties would probably die. That's why they retire us so early.'

'But don't think it'll be a breeze just because we're under the age threshold,' Malik warned. 'Especially those first few times, you'll still feel like you've been awake for a few days straight after a good working over by, well . . .' He stole a glance at Darius's fresh black eye.

'Nice simile,' Bianca said.

'I try.' Malik smiled.

'I don't know if that's true,' Constance argued. 'I usually just get a bit of a headache, and even that wears off after an hour.'

'That's because you're part Holstein,' Malik countered.

Constance threw a piece of cornbread at him, bouncing it off his shoulder. Leon frowned at the interruption and cleared his throat. 'Anyway, we were talking about rules. I guess there are only two: The first is that we can only travel backward in time, and then only twenty-four hours at the most. Think about how fast Earth spins, how fast it moves around the sun, and how fast the sun moves around the center of the galaxy, and so on. Our computers have to keep track of all that and more to avert any of a million disasters, and as it happens twenty-four hours is about the upper limit on our calculations for now. The second rule is that if you don't make it back into the Chamber before time catches up to the moment when you originally traveled back, you . . . well, we're not sure, really.'

'How are you not sure? Has it never happened?'

Leon swallowed and looked over at Bianca.

'Whatever,' she said. 'I don't care.'

'It's happened once,' Leon said. 'A few weeks before you were recruited.'
