Kudos to Pat!  For anyone interested in the life and culture of the Chesapeake Bay; in stories about Virginia's unique Eastern Shore; or in small town American life during and after World War II--this book is a "must read."  Pat is an exceptionally talented writer who transports her readers into the world in which she grew up.  Her descriptive "word pictures" enable one to "feel" the world she describes with her.  Her writing style is fluid and expressive.  It was my pleasure to work with Pat in a writers' critique group, and to have been asked to illustrate her book.

I loved this short but sweet book! The author did a wonderful job of illustrating life in a small coastal town in the 1940s and 1950s. Cape Charles, Virginia is such a bucolic setting for this wonderful memoir masterfully written by Patricia Parsons. I look forward to visiting Cape Charles again to tour the locations mentioned in Portrait of a Town. Truly an entertaining and pleasant read.
