Potatoes Not Prozac: Simple Solutions for Sugar Sensitivity by Kathleen DesMaisons

The national bestseller that started the sugar-free revolution, fully revised and updated with the latest scientific information and success stories from readers.

You're not lazy, self-indulgent, or undisciplined. Many people who suffer from sugar sensitivity don't even know it—and they continue to consume large quantities of sweets, breads, pasta, or alcohol. These foods can trigger exhaustion or low self-esteem, yet their biochemical impact makes those who are sugar sensitive crave them even more. This vicious cycle can continue for years, leaving sufferers overweight, fatigued, depressed, and sometimes alcoholic.

Dr. Kathleen DesMaisons came up with the solution and published it in her revolutionary book Potatoes Not Prozac. It gave you the tools needed to overcome sugar dependency, including self-tests and a step-by-step, drug-free program with a customizable diet designed to change your brain chemistry. But now, armed with a decade of further research and patient feedback, Dr. DesMaisons has improved her groundbreaking plan to make it even more effective and easier to follow. Join the thousands who have successfully healed their addiction to sugar, lost weight, and attained maximum health and well-being by using this updated, innovative plan.

This book offers ground breaking advice for dealing with depression. Kathleen Des Maisons talks us through the background of the brain chemistry which sets us up for depression. She then thoroughly explains her 7 step eating plan, designed to heal the underlying causes of depression, food cravings and weight gain. The book is well written, and contains many testimonials from people doing the programme in the UK and Europe. The food programme is inexpensive and all natural, and there is online support through the radiantrecovery website. If you have tried everything else to no avail, you will be pleasantly surprised that this may well be the last book you ever need concerning this issue. What a relief to stop searching and finally find the answers we need. If you are ready to join the growing number of people who are experiencing freedom from depression, this book will help you achieve that goal.

A couple years ago I made some changes in my diet with the hopes that it would help lift my depression. What I learned from experience dovetailed nicely with what I read in this book, and what I read gave me yet another way to look at what was happening for me. I was relieved to read that children of alchoholics often are sugar sensitive and that it's not my fault! The information Kathleen presents about the relationship between blood sugar and brain chemicals was illuminating and useful as well. That said, I haven't "bought" the 7 step program outlined in this book hook, line and sinker, and at the same time, I'm happy to have it in my toolkit, and to have been introduced to Kathleen's very uplifting and hopeful online community. There's a lot of goodies in here for anyone struggling with life who is willing to look at how eating supports or detracts from their overall health.

Once in a generation somebody has an idea so radical that it offers hope to millions. A little over a year ago I used to binge for Britain, I was depressed, had low self esteem and could barely drag myself through the day. I have started this year with a new found confidence and exhuberance for life. Happy is my default setting and I bound out of bed in the mornings looking forward to the day ahead. In short, my life has changed completely. I don't even remember the last time I binged - and that is huge for me. This book which has been totally updated is to thank for this turn around. Dr DesMaisons has a wonderfully easy to read writing style. There is just the right amount of real-life cases and science to keep you interested from beginning to end. The food program itself is purely holistic using real, inexpensive foods. Anyone can do it, it's not down to willpower - it's the biochemistry of our bodies. But this is not just my story - there are thousands of people around the world who have felt the benefits from this program. Are you willing to give it a go?

From the beginning pages, I could clearly identify with the author. I have finally given up on all 'diets' and have now begun to practice the steps she recommends. After only 3 weeks I feel so much better and now have clear documentation from my food journal to see how food drives so many of my behaviors. I would highly recommend this book to anyone else who is overweight for some very gentle guidance into scientific reasons for the bulk you bear.

"I know that, silly. I mean, the search. Im already living in the Athena Cabin, HOA camp, and hellicarrier, so why not another place?"
