About the Author
L. R. W. Lee credits her love of fantasy to C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Later on, she enjoyed the complex world of Middle Earth brought to life by J. R. R. Tolkien in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The multiple dimensions of the worlds, especially the dragons, mixed with a layer of meaning captivated her and made her desire to invent Young Adult Fantasy and Epic Fantasy worlds others could get lost in, but also take meaning away from. More recently, L. R. W. Lee has found inspiration from J. K. Rowling and her Harry Potter series as well as Brandon Mull and his best selling Fablehaven, Beyonders and Five Kingdoms series. L. R. W. Lee writes to teach her readers principles that can transform their lives – overcoming frustration, impatience, fear and more. She also shows why responsibility, diligence and dignity are the keys to true success in life. She hopes, one day, to become a top, bestselling author of teen books so she can share these life changing principles more widely. L. R. W. Lee lives in scenic Austin, TX with her husband. Their daughter recently graduated from college and started work, for Microsoft, and their son serves in the Air Force.

Ms. Lee has written an excellent prequel to the Andy Smithson series. It tells the story of how the curse on Oomaldee was created, and how Andy got involved with it. I like how it doesn’t make Imogenia seem bad at first, (but still hints at it, having her being a tad rude) and the change is gradual. As a fan of this series, this is a great addition! As usual Ms. Lee's writing style is great - she gets you hooked and keeps the action coming. I highly recommend this series.
In Blast of the Dragon's Fury, we’re introduced to ten-year-old Andrew Farrin Smithson, or Andy, a fifth-grader, who lives in Lakehills, TX, with his parents Fred and Emily Smithson and his older sister Madison, as he is transported to the other-worldly kingdom of Oomaldee to help King Heraclon V and wizard Mermin fight the evil King Abbadon of Hadession and break a curse placed on the land. As Andy returns to Oomaldee over the next two years in Venom of the Serpent's Cunning and Disgrace of the Unicorn's Honor, he learns that Heraclon had murdered his own sister Imogenia to claim the throne, which is the reason for the curse, and that he himself is a descendent of the king. His job is to find various ingredients which will end the curse and return everything to normal. What will Imogenia do about Andy? And how will her actions impact him and others? The books are intended as an allegorical, middle grade fantasy adventure series that entertains while teaching life changing principles. Power of the Heir's Passion is identified as Book 0 of the series, a short prequel novella. It's meant to be a teaser to get folks into the first book, so it also includes chapters 1 and 2 of Book 1. The story is primarily about Imogenia, explaining how her curse on Oomaldee was enacted and why Andy is the one chosen to break it. Thus, it will help to clear up some of the lingering questions from the series that readers may have wondered about. Those who have already read the other installments will not want to pass up this one to learn more information, and those who are new to the series will find it to be a good introduction.
Reviewed by Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite This powerful prequel to the Andy Smithson novels, titled Power of the Heir's Passion by L.R.W. Lee, begins with Imogenia, Princess of the land of Oomaldee, being escorted to the Afterlife by two Crossover Collectors. Imogenia had just been murdered by her brother, Kaysan, who wants to be the sole heir to the throne. While waiting in the Afterlife hall, Imogenia tries hard to devise a plan to avenge her own death. She is shortly joined by her parents, King Hercalon IV and Queen Acelin, who’d died of a broken heart, leaving Kaysan to rule the land under the title of ‘King Hercalon V.’ Imogenia’s parents agree to her plan to curse the land of Oomaldee during Kaysan’s rule, causing havoc to the people until Kaysan learns his lesson. Kaysan is also made immortal so he does not die before his lesson has been learned. Although short in length, the Andy Smithson prequel Power of the Heir's Passion by L.R.W. Lee covers quite a bit of ground, laying the foundation for the Andy Smithson series. Those who have not yet read the series are left wondering what will happen once the prequel ends. Will the curse be removed? Will Kaysan finally feel remorse for murdering his sister and show an outpouring of grief? With my curiosity well and truly piqued, I am certainly inspired to want to read more from this talented author, L.R.W. Lee, and find out for myself what lies ahead.
