Love Detective Madison Knight series. Carol Arnold has written a very exciting book. Not only does Madison have two murders to solve but she feels the murderer has kidnapped her sister. Will she be able to get to her sister in time? Excellent read couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the next book.

This is the first Madison Knight story I have read. I was immediately drawn into the story and could not put this book down. The characters are really well developed and engaging and the plot moves at breakneck speed from beginning to end. This book kept me on the edge of my seat late into the night. There are a lot of twists and turns and the story stays suspenseful throughout. I could not guess what was coming next. I will definitely be checking out more of this series!

I am a total sucker for television crime dramas. I love the mystery and the finding the clues and the evidence and piecing the puzzle together. The suspicious suspects and the questioning, trying to get to the bottom of what they are hiding and if they did it or not. Carolyn Arnold is a master at that and Power Struggle was a crime television show in written form! I have loved all of Carolyn’s writing and I am sure I have read the precursor to Power Struggle but I for the life of me, it will not come to the forefront of my brain – but that’s okay! Nothing about the book made me feel like I needed the background that I was missing. I wasn’t lost, I followed along no problem – it just would have been nice to recall. I don’t recall reading anything previously where Madison was so personally involved in a case and I think that made me want to crawl deeper into the mystery and the case with her – it was personal and dangerous and put her at risk – but we have to solve the case! There were many shady characters that definitely kept me guessing throughout. Carolyn Arnold writes excellent books and if you are a person who loves crime as much as I do – you don’t want to miss any of her books!

As with the previous Madison Knight books, author Carolyn Arnold takes us on a thrill ride of danger, adventure, and edge of your seat suspense. Add to the mix the danger now facing Detective Knight’s family and the suspense intensifies. As old nemeses close in, will she be able to protect those she loves? Another great story in the series with Ms Arnold’s distinct and credible style. I’m definitely looking forward to more.

What better way to spend a winter’s night than with a good book and the right atmosphere for a brilliant read. Carolyn Arnold has done it again. This time Madison is under threat but does not know where or when the attack will happen. The psychological mind is expertly probed and described on how we react to the fear of the unknown. Character traits and beliefs are at the forefront of this tense and absorbing thriller. When your life is challenged to the ultimate test of to survive you must kill, what would we do? A fast paced page turning tense psychological thriller which draws the reader in to the dark side of the human nature. How does the normal person react when faced with danger no-one knows until it is out to the test but Carolyn writes with an in-depth knowledge of the human psyche. Praise for Carolyn Arnold and Madison Knights trials and tribulations a great read.

When Detective Madison Knight is called to investigate a murder, she never dreamed that the victim would be the man who had killed her grandfather so many years ago. The victim, Jimmy Bates had ties to the Russian Mafia, and it didn’t escape Madison that the multiple stab wounds mimicked the work of mob hitman Constantine Romanov, who only a few months ago nearly succeeded in killing Madison. While delving further into the investigation, it becomes clear that Madison is his prime target and she must do whatever she can to keep her family safe. Carolyn Arnold has done it again with this edge-of-your-seat crime thriller. It had me filled with dread with each ring of Madison’s phone. I felt so bad for her. Each character in this series is complex and well-thought out. It was obvious by the end that Madison’s character had matured even further. I highly recommend reading this series.

Detective Madison Knight is back in the eighth instalment of the ‘Detective Madison Knight Series’ by Carolyn Arnold. In Power Struggle, Detective Knight is investigating the murder of Jimmy Bates, found dead in his bed after having been tortured. This case is too close for comfort though for Madison. Back before Madison had been born, Jimmy had murdered her grandfather, so to see him killed in this manner gives her slight satisfaction. However, she can’t help but notice the similarities between the way Jimmy was murdered and an old case in which the murderer, Constantine Romanov, got away, not before nearly killing Madison. Is Constantine back and is Madison still on his hit list? Power Struggle is the first Detective Madison Knight book that I have read. Whilst I would advise reading the series in order, I can honestly say that I never had an issue understanding the plot, nor the characters. There are some moments when it would have been good to have known the back story, but when it came to those that actually mattered, Ms. Arnold had given us information to understand them fully. The book not only deals with Madison and her career as a detective, but also her family and personal life too. She is a tough woman with a soft centre, but she makes sure that she always puts on her game face and never lets anyone see how scared and unsure she is on the inside. Ms. Arnold had me gripped to each and every page, which heightened with the discovery of a second victim, and then the confirmation that Constantine was back, and that he was not only targeting Madison this time, but her family and friends too. There were numerous people who could have been pulling Constantine’s strings, but who and why wasn’t revealed until the very end. The book is filled with mystery and suspense, surrounded by plenty of action. It is a terrific book that was not only enjoyable but intensified as the plot progressed. I can’t wait to read more by Ms. Arnold.

An intense suspenseful twisted chase to the final face-off! Power Struggle is a fast-paced suspenseful crime thriller that is full of action and suspense that will keep you guessing right up to the end. Madison is sure that Constantine is after her for revenge however, the story to get there will twist and turn with several different ways that you will not be able to put the connection together until the end. This is a story that is intense, exciting, and thrilling. Power Struggle is an intriguing, unique and well-written story. Carolyn Arnold is one author who really knows how to build up the suspense and keep your attention to the very end. The characters are well developed and engaging. Carolyn does a good job of intertwining the different characters throughout. This is one of several books I have read by Carolyn Arnold and this will certainly not be my last. I was not disappointed at all. I recommend Power Struggle to anyone that is looking for an intense thrill that will keep you guessing until the very end.

One of my favorite kind of book is a fast paced; Crime, Suspenseful, Thrillers with strong and good characters. I really like the good cops. I like it when it all goes well for them, everything turns out o.k. and there is a little clean romance. For me Power Struggle and author Carolyn Arnold fits right into my list and has become a new favorite. Fast paced. From page 1 the reader is drawn into the story. When a brutal murder takes place Madison and her partner are fast on the scene. But the scene doesn't go quite as normal for Madison when she realizes that the MO is too close to one from a few years before. A murder by a hit man that is probably back in town and ready to come after Madison. The suspense unfolds as everyone realizes that the hit man Constantine is back and ready for revenge. What hit man wouldn't be when he botches an assignment. Which is exactly what happened. Madison was his victim and she got away. So now he's back and seeking revenge by threatening her family. When Madison refuses to be taken off the case friends, family and co-workers encourage her to let the other police handle. Like if she quite the hit man would really just go away. Hello? Which he doesn't of course. And so the game is on. The ride is thrilling. The ride is suspenseful and fills the reader with a few hours of on the edge of the seat entertainment. And about the romance and good ending? I can't spill the beans you'll have to read it yourself. I received a complimentary copy.

Madison Knight is a female detective after my own heart. She wants to be strong and respected for the great job she does. She does not want to receive special treatment just because she lives with a SWAT officer or because that officer's sister is the police chief. Yet, she is not afraid to call on these connections when needed. Madison received a death threat and asks the police chief to place her family basically under protective custody. Somehow, Russian Mafia hitman Constantine Romanov manages to get past all of this and captures/kidnaps her sister Chelsea. Now, all Madison wants to do is get Chelsea back. You'll need to pick up a copy of this great read by Carolyn Arnold to find out if the series is ending or if Madison takes out the hitman. All I know for sure is this is a book worth the time you will spend reading it. I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

This was a really good book. I enjoyed catching back up with Detective Madison Knight. These books do read well as stand alone reads. This was only the 2nd book of this series that I have read and I did not feel lost. Almost a year has passed since Madison was kidnapped and almost died at the hands of Russian Mafia hit man Constantine Romanov. A new murder victim who has ties to the Mafia and was the man who killed her Grandfather, also appears to have the same MO of Constantine's other victims. Now Madison can think of no other murderer than Constantine. That is confirmed for her when she receives a letter threatening to finish what he started and that her Family and Friends are no longer safe either. Madison does whatever it takes to protect them but the body count starts rising and the stakes get higher as one of her Family members are now missing. Will she be able to save them? Or will he get what he has came for? The final chance to finish what he's started. I received a copy of this book to read through Beck Valley Book Tours. I was not asked to review this book. I was not compensated in any way for this review.

Power Struggle is a murder-mystery with a thriller tone that takes the readers on a journey of action, suspense and emotions. Madison Knight, a smart and strong detective, is not one to go down without a fight, even when the stakes are high. The nightmares haunted her ever since Constantine Romanov, a Russian hit-man, slid through the prison bars ten months ago. She tried to remind herself of how impossible it is for him to return to Stiles—the fictional city this story is set in—but when a murder case pops up, Madison knows how this all can connect back to the Russian mafia; all she needs is a proof or Constantine himself. I really liked this book. The third-person limited narration works as the strongest asset of the story. It’s uncommon to find a murder mystery that not only keeps the suspense built or the killer a secret but also tags the readers alongside the protagonist. There aren’t any disclosures or firm theories shoved in the face of the reader; there are possible speculations that are mentioned even if they aren’t correct. This made it possible to penetrate the mind of Detective Knight and actually live the conundrum. Another positive point is the slow disclosure of revelations; this made the story more of a progressive account rather than an information dump. Everything doesn’t makes sense immediately but as things keep unraveling, the bigger picture comes into focus. It’s almost phenomenal how everything is intriguing to a reader despite of being exposed to all the current happenings in the scene. Characters are quite well developed with a special, and much deserved, emphasis on the main character, Madison. She is an excellently crafted persona who isn’t flawless or ideal. She makes mistakes, she regrets making those mistakes, and tries her best to correct them. Not only this, her commitment issues made her relationship with Troy, her boyfriend, difficult, leading to more turmoil to an already long list of issues. Madison’s equation with her mother is another addition to a hard but realistic life of this character. Basically, the story is not just about a killer and his killing, but also dips into the protagonist’s problems. The climax was good. More than the execution of it, I loved how it revolved around our fighter lady and she did what she wanted to do—what she had to do. There wasn’t any damsel in distress situation set up for a man, or the SWAT team (of which Troy was a part of) in this regard, to rescue Madison or her sister, Chelsea. This definitely fueled my need for strong female characters and all in all, made my day! Another teeny tiny bit that made my feminist soul happy was how Madison wasn’t resigning from this case, despite of her personal connection to the scenario, because she wanted to prove to her boss that the police force is not a boys-only-club. Just one thing that didn’t work for me—and cost a half-star—was the failure to not use the mainstream tactic that pops into one’s head when there’s a number code to decipher. Over the entire length of the novel, the expert team who had strained their eyes by continuously staring at the ten digits, that were meant to be something, couldn’t figure out what it was. In fact, this wasn’t even what let me down; it’s the timing of the revelation that disappointed me. Suddenly, now that the climax is going to peak, everybody gets to this ten-digit-code and cracks it in a few minutes…what? Why didn’t they try doing that all this time?

Major Crimes Detective Madison Knight has mixed emotions about Jimmy Bates murder. Maybe it was Karma that he’s lying in his bed, brutally murdered. After all, he was responsible for her grandfather’s death. Could the hitman that had almost killed Madison be back to finish the job? Could the Russian Mafia be tying up loose ends? Can she, will she, be able to move past the personal and be a professional? Her friends, coworkers, and family are concerned, but they do not stand in her way. She lives with the head of the Stiles Police Department Swat Team, Toby Sovereign. I am hoping she doesn’t do something foolish, like keeping secrets from him and putting herself and those closest to her in danger. I love Toby. Thank goodness he has the patience to put up with her stubbornness. Madison has has severe commitment issues. Lies by omission are still lies. I would find it hard to trust her, as does Toby, but he loves her dearly and hopes she will come around, me too. Sometimes I wonder if she has a death wish because she can be so reckless and careless. I think that strong characters do have a wish to keep those they love from being a victim or put in the path of a bullet, and feel they are able to handle things themselves. And I do love my strong women, so who knows, maybe I would do the same thing if I wasn’t more of the spectator type. Power Struggle is a complicated mystery. As the deaths pile up, the mystery and danger grows. Lives are at stake and we know Bulldog Madison will put it all on the line. Maddie, if I am ever in trouble, I’ll be calling on you. Even when she’s on the verge of losing her self control and sanity, there is that special something that clicks in her mind, refusing to give up as the pieces fall into place. Action, suspense, not so much romance, but lots of love from Troy, Terry, her partner, coworkers, family and friends. They all play an important part in her life and I feel like they are my friends too. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Power Struggle by Carolyn Arnold.

I absolutely loved this book. I hadn’t read any of the previous books in the series and I kind of feel like I’m missing out. Not in the sense that you have to read it in order, just in the sense that the author lacked so much information into one book that I want to read more! I completely agree with the fact that you could start the series with any book, but I imagine if you have a preference to read events chronologically then you’d probably want to start with the first book in the series. This book has so many great aspects to it; there’s plenty of drama and the suspense that will leave you eager for the conclusion of the book. The author had me on the edge of my seat waiting for what was going to happen next. The tension in the book built perfectly, starting from the beginning of the book to the end. The cast of characters that this author has created is relatable and realistic. The book didn’t seem long while reading because the story was so engrossing and fast paced but it was actually about 450 pages – so I wouldn’t consider it a short book. Overall I gave this book 4.5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who like a good suspense read. **4.5 Stars - I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Power Struggle by Carolyn Arnold is the 8th book in her terrific Detective Madison Knight series. I have been a fan of this series since the beginning, and Carolyn Arnold never fails to give us an intense exciting story, not to mention her expertise in police procedurals. Power Struggle, is the best one yet, in this series, as it is an edge of your seat suspense thriller. Madison Knight, our series heroine, is a tough detective, who also has a vulnerable side when it comes to family and relationships. When Madison arrives on a murder scene with her partner, Terry, she senses déjà vu, as the Russian hitman, who almost killed her seems to be back. Madison is still getting nightmares about Constantine, and her fears escalate; especially after she receives a note threatening to finish the job and hurt those she loves. This changes the game for Madison, as she must maintain her composure, keep her fears secret from workers and family, and find Constantine before he can do anything. Madison works with her friends and team (Terry, Cynthia, Troy, etc), to work together to find the clues about the murder, which will have many twists and turns along the way. Why is Constantine back and are the Russian mob involved? Who is behind these murders? What follows is an exciting, tense, pulse pounding action thriller, which has Madison running against time to protect her family, as well as her life. She must also fight her superior’s determination to take her off the case, in order to protect her. Madison, as tough as she is, becomes emotionally a wreck, desperately trying to keep her objectivity and calm. She will let no one stop her from being involved in a wild dangerous race to save her family. I noted in my last review that I loved the changes Arnold made in the last book, and I must say I loved it even more in Power Struggle. Madison still has a vulnerability and lack of confidence in totally bonding with Troy, which will change closer to the end. But what I did love was giving us a glimpse at seeing her with her friends/coworkers and the closeness between them. Cynthia, her friend and the medical examiner was great. Even Terry, whom I have said previously that I did not like, has changed a lot, that I actually like him now. We got to see all of Madison’s family, which was nice. Power Struggle was a great story, which not only was exciting and tense, it also pulled a lot of our emotions throughout the book. I loved Power Struggle, which I could not put down until the very end. It was a thrilling edge of your seat ride. I you enjoy murder mysteries, written so well by Carolyn Arnold, you should be reading the Detective Madison Knight series.

After being almost killed by a Russian mob hit man, Madison Knight is beginning to pull herself together. She has the occasional nightmare, the more often flashbacks, a bit of PTSD, but she's getting better with the help of a therapist and the love of her boyfriend. But the hit man is back ... and he wants to finish what he started. He's brazen enough to send her a letter announcing his arrival .. and threatening to kill her family and all those she loves. Madison and the entire police department is looking for him, but when her sister goes missing, she knows the end game is in sight. This is a terrific addition to the series! The Russian mob has been a running thread through the last several books and a lot of those threads will be solved. The characters are well defined and it's been a pleasure watching as Madison has aged, has seemingly turned her personal life around and survived whatever life has thrown at her. Her devotion to her family comes through in bright lights in this story. The premise is a good one with lots of excitement, credible suspects as bodies fall, and a cold hearted villain. Although this does fine as a stand-alone, as always, I highly recommend starting at the beginning so as to not miss any of those nuggets that make this a top notch series. Many thanks to the author for the advance digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

This one will get your adrenaline as well as your blood pressure up a notch or three! When Madison Knight and her partner are called to a murder scene--it sends chills down Madison's body--and not because of who was murdered. It was the manner in which it was done. She is pretty sure she knows who the killer is. Constantine-the Russian hit man who almost killed Madison may be back. She starts having nightmares again. However she is not going to jump to conclusions! This gets really convoluted--who did it--and why are other people dying--are these deaths connected? A note is found on her car--and suddenly not only she but her entire family is in danger! How will she and the rest of the police protect them. She refuses to get off the case--then her sister is kidnapped!! Will they find her sister before she is murdered? Will Madison finally get closure in more ways then one? Read this book to find out!
