Overview

A workbook to help you master Spanish tenses

Some things just take a lot of practice to learn, and verb tenses are one of them! Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses goes beyond the scope of many other books that deal with verbs. Typical verb books often present little more than charts of conjugations with perhaps some mechanical exercises that do little to help you really master when and why a particular verb tense should be used.

Spanish Verb Tenses fills this void by offering clear, concise, and at times, humorous explanations that pinpoint why a certain tense works in a given situation. The hundreds of varied exercises offer the added plus of allowing for lots of practice.

The book is divided into three main parts: Part I deals exclusively with the present tense-including the conjugation of regular verbs, formation of questions, essential differences between ser and estar, use of the personal a, reflexive verbs, and the present progressive mood.

Part II covers the other six tenses of the indicative mood: preterite, imperfect, future, conditional, present perfect, and past perfect.

Part III presents the imperative and the subjunctive, as well as the future perfect, conditional perfect, and the passive voice.

Two appendices complete the text-one lists verb conjugations, and the other highlights certain verbs and their corresponding prepositions. There are also two bilingual glossaries that define vocabulary introduced in the exercises.

As a companion to a basic text, as a review workbook, or as a reference source, Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses is anindispensable tool for all those who want to practice and perfect their use of Spanish verbs.

I haven't taken Spanish for 3 years, and that wasn't a very intense Spanish class. This book is a PERFECT review for anyone who understands the basics, but has forgotten vocab and needs to relearn tenses. I'll definitely be buying the Italian books in this series to help my Italian skills improve!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I just finished 2 years of spanish and have already forgotten what I have learned from the first year so I decided to try to brush up on my verb skills with this book and man has it helped A LOT! I am getting back what I have forgotten and I am sooo happy about that! This book also organized and makes it easy for you to understand and all the answers are in the back so you can check to see if you have done the work correctly. Normally I don't even like workbooks but for some reason this one is addicting! I have now purchased all the practice makes perfect books and I can't wait to use those too! I definitely recommend this to anyone!

This book makes a terrific practice tool and will help anyone who is learning Spanish to solidify his understanding of the language. Practice Makes Perfect is similar to the kind of workbook you might find in a classroom, but its easy-to-read format and straightforward approach really takes the chore out of learning. It not only presents the material on verb tense, but explains why you are supposed to use a particular verb form in a given situation. This is a very logical, nicely laid out book. I particularly liked the inclusion of conjugation tables and an answer key for the practice exercises for easy reference. Working through all of the exercises improved my Spanish immensely ¿ an accomplishment that made my vacation to Mexico this summer that much more pleasurable. Learning verb tenses and their application is critical to mastering any language. While I loved this book, I would only recommend it to those who have intermediate to somewhat advanced Spanish language skills. Using the Learning Spanish Like Crazy audio CDs to build a broad vocabulary first is probably better than jumping right into this book.

I have the best teacher alive but this book supplements the teaching with understandable explainations of how and why the particular verbs are used. Buy it and use it.

Excellente book for students of spanish...I love that the answers are given in the back of the book..all my college workbooks never gave the answers and the instructors don't grade them, so I never received feed back until I bought this book...This book is a must for any begining spanish student.

This has answered so many questions that were not answered in classes or in text books. I am getting my questions answered, and it has helped me to become a better writer. I wish that I had found this sooner.

This book has helped me amazingly in extending my vocabulary and gave me a lot of practice conjugating verbs. It gave me more confidence to put sentences together without hesitation, also the answers in the back are a great help to perfect what you write.

This book is super. I had been very disappointed with the textbooks available for Spanish. This book is very well organized and is laid out in a way that makes it easy for me to teach and for the students to learn.

The author says she wrote the book because there was no thorough and definitive Spanish verb book of its kind. She was right. I might buy another one as mine is so "dog-eared". This is THE book to have, and give encouragement to struggling students. You'll write alot, but that "mental and internal"light of understanding will start to glow. I only wish I could thank her (that's the subjunctive in Spanish).::)) I am proud of and grateful to Barnes and Noble for such a fine Foreign Language Studies section of books.

Who ever thought that a grammar book would be so useful and so much fun? I recommend this for every intermediate Spanish student. What a great book.

I never thought I could learn Spanish, especially conjugations, but once I had basic vocabulary down and pronunciation through aid of a cassette, I was able to really study using Spanish Verb Tenses. The explanations are incredibly clear and I am now at an advanced level after a year or so and was able to go to Guatemala and hold hour long conversations - and I had no Spanish in high school or college. Highly recommended.

This book takes the difficulty out of learning spanish verbs. The explanations are incredibly easy and the exercises solidify the information learned. If you are serious about learning how to speak spanish and carry on serious conversations with natives, and get out of the present tense, this is the book. It is very in depth, but a must if you want to learn spanish, to the point of really knowing the language. It makes it easy and interesting. It has totally changed my fluency level.
