About the Author

Jimmy Peña, MS, received his master's degree in clinical exercise physiology from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1998. He then published his thesis summary on the effects of endurance training on muscle size and strength in competitive athletes in the renowned journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. Peña served as the fitness director for Muscle & Fitness and Muscle & Fitness Hers magazines, and for more than a decade wrote and edited thousands of articles on training and fitness, making him one of the nation's most published fitness experts. In 2006, Peña designed the women's training programs for LL Cool J's New York Times bestseller Platinum Workout, and later that year served as creator and host of the Muscle & Fitness DVD series, The Rock-Hard Challenge. In early 2007, Peña began working with Mario Lopez, contributing to his book Knockout Fitness, while also helping prepare his physique for appearances in People, TV Guide, and on FX's acclaimed primetime show Nip/Tuck. Peña is an ongoing resource for NBC's Extra and in 2010 was the coauthor of the New York Times bestseller, Extra Lean.

Jimmy Page, MS, serves as the vice president of field ministry and national director of wellness for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. For nearly 20 years, he has been a leader in the medical fitness industry, operating wellness facilities affiliated with Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins. He currently hosts a daily radio segment and podcast called Fit Life Today, offering a blend of spiritual and physical health principles that promote abundant life. He's the coauthor of WisdomWalks.

Jim Stoppani, PhD, serves as senior science editor for Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, and Flex magazines and is a science consultant for numerous companies. He has written thousands of articles on exercise, nutrition, and health and is author of the Encyclopedia of Muscle & Strength, coauthor (with LL Cool J) of Platinum 360 Diet and Lifestyle, and coauthor of the book Stronger Arms & Upper Body. Dr. Stoppani is the creator of the Platinum 360 Diet and the diet program found in Mario Lopez's Knockout Fitness. He has been the personal nutrition and health consultant for numerous celebrity clients, including Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, and Mario Lopez, and has appeared on the NBC television show Extra as an Extra LifeChanger.

I reviewed PrayFit out of curiosity. How is it celebrities recommend a fitness book that focuses on Jesus? (Not your usual Hollywood stuff, for sure.) I soon found out what makes PrayFit buzz-worthy. PrayFit is a guide to a healthy body and stronger faith in 28 days and includes devotions, exercises, tips and meal plans. Author and fitness guru, Jimmy Pena, shares his wisdom about exercise, food and faith. Jimmy Page, MS and Jim Stoppani, PHD, complete the package making PrayFit an easy-read manual on growing in faith and fitness in 28 days. Don't get me wrong. Although PrayFit provides a challenging 28-day workout plan (which, by the way, involves zero equipment, so no excuses anyone), the spiritual component is not deep theology. The devotional nuggets and prayers are simple, but nonetheless biblical. And, like the meal-plans and food tips, readings are bite-sized easy to read. PrayFit provides intense workouts, thorough food info and inspiriting spiritual content. I recommend it for just about anyone. (Makes a great gift-especially for friends interested in improving their health and needing to draw closer to Jesus.) Follow up tips and info are also on the PrayFit website. Good stuff. Janey L.
