Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Fifteen-year-old Gracie has been plagued by visions for most of her life. However, when her only friend, Emily, is kidnapped, Gracie finds she is the only one who can help her. She must decipher her visions in an effort to rescue her friend. Unfortunately, her sleuthing leads to her own kidnapping. At the same time that she copes with the disappearance of Emily, Gracie also tries to come to terms with her mother's recent death and her new life with her aunt and cousin. Packed with twists and suspense, this book proves to be an interesting read. Unfortunately, it has a slow start before Gracie finally decides to search for Emily. However, once the book gets going, it is filled with unexpected turns. The reader becomes caught up in the action of tracking down clues and interpreting visions. The characters are well-developed and compelling. The reader truly cares what happens to Gracie and her friends. The subplot of dealing with parental death works seamlessly through the adventure eventually giving Gracie a point of reference with the kidnapper. Although the first person protagonist is a female, she is not a girly girl. Boys may be able to enjoy this adventure book as well. 2004, Scholastic, Ages 12 up.

Jude Watson, author of numerous children's Star Wars books, has written an intriguing tale of a teenaged psychic who must save her best friend's life. Gracie started having premonitions after a near-drowning experience when she was ten years old. Since then, she knows unexplainable things about people. She even senses that something bad will happen to her mother on a business trip. Following the terrible accident that kills her mom, she is sent to Seattle to live with her eccentric, free-spirited Aunt Shay. Gracie tries to adjust to living with her, but still feels like an outsider. After another horrible premonition, her friend Emily disappears, and it is up to Gracie to piece the puzzle together and find her. She gains an unexpected ally in her cousin Diego as they try to solve the case together. The story builds to a terrifying climax as Gracie's sleuthing puts her own life in grave danger. Readers will see through Gracie's eyes what it means to lose a parent and deal with the uncertainty of whether she could realistically have intervened. The mystery with its added paranormal subplot will make this book appeal to a wide range of teens. Recommended for all teen collections. KLIATT Codes: JS—Recommended for junior and senior high school students. 2004, Scholastic, 241p., Ages 12 to 18.

Gracie has visions, or premonitions that she never asked for, they just come to her. She doesn't like them at all, but they've become part of her life, and she can't stop them. When her best friend turns up missing, Gracie realizes that the premonitions she loathes are her only hope of finding her friend. I liked this book, but it was too easy to predict what would happen next. After Gracie's mother dies, she goes to live with her aunt and cousin. Eventually, her best and only friend disappears and the police have no lead. Gracie decides to investigate on her own. Her premonitions give her clues, but sometimes, she misinterprets them and gets in trouble. Then she gets kidnapped by the same person that kidnapped her friend. Not only does she have to save the other kids that have been abducted, she must now save herself. The plot of this book is kind of predictable, and the characters are obviously fictitious and unrealistic. The present tense form of writing is difficult to follow. It can become confusing and hard to comprehend. All in all, this book was too predictable and not very thrilling. It was easy to guess what was going to happen, but hard to understand, because of the present tense writing.

I just started reading this book and I can't put it down!!! I stayed up all night reading it! It is a must have! I can't wait to finish it to see what happens in the second installment of Gracie's advaentures.

If you think that you have it hard as a teenager, wait until you read about the challenges that this girl had to face. Not only does she have to cope with the death of her mother, having an road block like a fifth sense, but her best friend in whom she was unintentionally blocking out with her own self-pity, has just gone missing. This book beats the adventuures of Nany Drew by a long hall. The visions that this character experiences added to the overall suspence, is a spectacular blend. I would defenatly reccomend this book who anybody who can read, that doesn't like wasting their time with lame stories. It's worth it.

Omg I read this book in one day and I must say in this case the book kept me reading not my love of reading which is wonderful! the author, Jude Watson keeps you guessing and wondering what's going to happen next, I must say, I love this book and how the mood and everything follows through to Disappearance which I'm about to finish (yea, I know "BOOK WORM!" might as well be written on my forehead) and have to say, if you liked this book you haven't seen nothing yet, Disappearance really does give the story line a run for its money especially with Gracie's father coming back into the picture after his 13yr long run from responsibility.

This book was very good and tells about how a girl can see things that happens. Her best friend was kidnapped by a person that had no family and Gracie ends up at the place. It is riveting that will keep you wondering who is the kidnapper.

It was okay. I for one didn't really think it was that suspensful, but almost predictable. I do admit that it shows reality, but poorly presents the conversations and setting. You recieved what Gracie got, only the premontition.

Okay, I'm a little late on reading in because my school library isn't the best, but I liked this book so much that I finished it in a day! I can't wait to read the second one. I wonder if it will be just as good, but I'm sure it will be. I liked how you never really knew who the kidnapper was and just when you thought you had it, it wasn't them. Also, I liked how at the end, Gracie got along better with her aunt.

The name of the book I read was Premonitions, and is written by Jude Watson. This book is about a girl named Gracie who goes through many confusing obstacles. The starting point was when her friend Emily disappears. She had to find Emily before something horrible happened to her, but Gracie wasn¿t a normal teenager. She has visions of the past and the future. She can see something happening before it really occurs. She used to ignore them but now she has to take advantage of the sights and try to find he friend, each clue is barely enough but when she puts the pieces together it all come together. With the work of her brother and the help of her mother they have to fight till the very end and catch the kidnapper before he strikes again on another person! This book was an exciting book because it kept giving me clues but not giving away the kidnapper. It had many turns and interesting parts. One thing that really interested me was the small conflicts here and there. It looked like a real scenario and a scary one. There were many conflicts that added up to the main conflict, that is what kept me going. In this book, there were no cartoons or unrealistic scenes. It was about people who had everyday lives. The author did a good job describing the characters. She never left a part out about any character. One satisfying point in was the end. Everything went back to normal and it was a happy ending that the teenagers would never forget. Friends were brought back together and special bonds were created between the characters. That is what I liked the most. In Premonitions, Gracie gives her ideas and her point of view from her side. She tells the readers the story of how everything happens. I thought this suited the book well because the readers would understand what she had been through and how her feelings really were. Also, the author used some hard words that even made it more interesting. Even though there were some hard words, you could understand every word by reading the whole sentence. I liked the way the author wrote the book because she kept us hanging. We would be thinking one way, while the author pulled us another way. There were only two things that I didn¿t like about the author¿s writing style. One was the way she didn¿t really describe the scenes too much. I couldn¿t picture many parts of the book in my head. I felt like there were some black holes in my mind. Second, I didn¿t like the dialogues because it wasn¿t written that well. She should have made the dialogues longer and understandable. For example, one part of the book I didn¿t understand was when Gracie and her mom were talking. I felt like I didn¿t know which one was talking and which was not. It was hard to follow along and understand what the characters were saying. Overall, the book was a good-based book and would be placed in my okay section. I rate this book a six out of ten because there were some parts in the book where the passages didn¿t really catch me. I sometimes thought that Jude Watson could be a little more descriptive and could write her dialogues a little better. During the time period I read, I had the feeling to put this book down, but I still read on because some parts interested me. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries. This book is mainly for teenagers, but can be suitable for all ages. I think everyone should read this book in his or her free time. They could really understand most the parts and get the jist of the book. In conclusion, this book was a book that should be read in your spare time. It is an enlightening book that has twists every now and then. You should pick this book up today and start reading it. It really opened up my mind of imagination.

It literally took me 12 hours to finish this book, I read all day when I first got it, because it was so good, and then for the following days I was wrapped up in the meaning of the book. It was very powerful and suspenseful and emotional at the same time.

I thought that this book was very magnetic, and it denfinitly held you in suspense. Everything seemed to overlap, and then come together in a very unusual ending. I read Preminitions for a book report, and it was very exciting to actually write about a book I really enjoyed! The description and visual ideas are excellent!

Gracie has premonitions, visions. She's had them since before her mother's death. She does not want them, hates them, and has no idea what to do about them. Still grieving for her mother, Gracie lives with Aunt Shay and Shay's son, Diego. Aunt Shay and Diego have been tip toeing around Gracie, giving her time to adjust to living with them and to mourn. .................... Then Gracie's best friend, Emily, disappears. The police have no clues at all. Gracie, with the support of Aunt Shay and Diego, must quickly learn not to avoid her visions, but try to make them happen. Emily's life, as well as several others, depend on it! ......................... ***** Author Jude Watson is mostly known for her young adult series in the Star Wars universe. But every now and then the author take a few months out to write to write science fiction in OUR universe. Here is one and it was worth the wait! If you have ever wished to have the power of premonitions, this story will cure you of it. Hang onto your seat. It is going to be a bumpy ride! *****
