This Time With Feeling ========================= Perry Martin's PRETTY FLAMINGO delivers a richly sentimental tale of timeless love. Since I usually tend to gravitate toward suspense genres in which action and romantic threads are interwoven more as an undercurrent, I was unsure what to expect from this novel...but I gave it a fair shot. I came away realizing that Martin has skillfully put me into the mind and soul of the protagonist and has caused me to "become" that character. I cannot help but feel that the protagonist may be an alter-ego of Martin himself. That's actually true of so many authors and their heroic figures, but this time the impression took on a deeper quality. I sensed that Martin's innate talent as an author, and his desire to get this debut novel's story told, comes from deep personal feeling and deep understanding of the people within the tale. The author has definitely spent time with these characters. The story offers something additional--the path and climax of a personal odyssey. The entire account rings powerfully real, and might--from a reader's eyes anyway--almost be considered a true tale. Is Martin communicating with someone from his own past? I don't know, but it's a beautiful thought. Literarily, this book is well done. The author has a linguistic style that's his own--that transcends the choppy, formulaic mechanics of less original styles. A willing reader soon falls into the cadence of his voice, and it's a pleasant transformation. Martin's descriptive abilities make the journey come alive. Little things that one would notice in real life, such as an alarm clock or a faint sound, or a forlorn feeling while hitch-hiking up a lonely road, occupy a small sliver of our attention, much as they really would. The result is a 3D effect and a delicious free-running contrast between logistics and emotion, between the trivial and the profound. I believe it's vital to appreciate what a book has to offer. I truly enjoyed this book, and in fact went back to read favorite passages again. I find it noteworthy how many readers have posted glowing reviews of the strength of emotion PRETTY FLAMINGO delivers. I recommend this book to all who love a story with real feeling, and will give Martin the high star rating his contribution to the readership deserves. I'm now looking forward to beginning Martin's next work--Savannah. (And I hope another encore is coming as well.) - Michael Vorhis (author of suspense thrillers ARCHANGEL and OPEN DISTANCE)

When I started reading Pretty Flamingo I quickly became hooked. The storyline as well as the characters captured my attention immediately and kept me engrossed from the beginning to the very end. I also enjoyed the thought provoking ideas the auther introduced to the reader about how our past experiences may effect us in unexpected ways.

I really enjoyed this gripping book. It is a love story with a mysterious twist. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Then it makes you cry. You go through so many different emotions and wonder where it's leading. Looking forward to his next book. He has a great way with words!

Pretty Flamingo is destined to be a best-seller and sure to be made into a blockbuster feature-lenth film! Due to my busy schedule as a pro musician, I don't get a chance to read many books. Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down! It is a compelling story that has many ups & downs and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending is perfect. Kudos, Perry!

Superbly written, Pretty Flamingo is a compelling account of friendship, love, romance, passion, tragedy, heartbreak, hope, betrayal, and redemption. The reader becomes intimately involved with the characters; sharing the sorrow, tears, joy, laughter, and unconditional love. A must read!!!

I highly recommend this wonderfully uplifting book. If you've ever had doubts that our souls live on then this is the true tale to digest for reassurance that we shall indeed see our loved ones time and time again, but we must have great patience. Don't expect fluffy romance throughout. It includes dark periods of great sadness, betrayal and loss; atrocious treatment by the medical profession; and a profound sense by the protagonist that all is not as it should be. In the end, however, you will be a happier person for having read this amazing story.

The storyline in Pretty Flamingo is quite unique and spell binding. Once I was into it I didn't want to put it down but at the same time I tried to stretch it out because I really didn't want it to end! I found that I became so immersed in the story that I was emotionally involved in the story. When's the next one coming out Perry? I can't wait! Bridget S.

I finally finished this book last night...thank goodness. I based this purchase on previous reviews, all of which were 5 star rated. I have no idea what book they read, but the book I read was terrible. At one point in the book I had to go back to the B&N website to see if I had accidentally purchased a teen romance. The main character-David Perry-spends the majority of the book asleep and during these hours of sleep remembers his one and only true teenage love -Lisa. The anguishing detail (how many times did we have to read that David went to the bathroom and relieved himself) and unbelievable story (David and Lisa spend several nights alone (the story is set between 1969 and 2004) yet never get further than heavy petting. It could have been a good story but it just dragged on and on and on and on.
