Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry... in a new, horrific, unimaginable way...

Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas. Her new hunger spurs her to leave a wake of death and blood behind her as she struggles with her new nature.

All the while, her creator is watching. He is ancient, he is powerful, and what's worse is that he's a necromancer. He has the power to force the dead to do his bidding. Amaliya realizes she is but a pawn in a twisted game, and her only hope for survival is to seek out one of her own kind.

But if Amaliya finds another vampire, will it mean her salvation... or her death?

Bought for MyselfOverall Rating 4.25Character Rating 4.50Story Rating 4.00NOTE: I was having a discussion the other day that I was getting kind of tired of Vampires. This book though kind of built up my love for them again. I think it was because the Vampires acted like Vampires: Killed, Drank, and had to avoid the sun. YEAH!Book Note: The blurb only gives a very small description about what this book has to offer. It is not only Amaliya's journey once being turned but Cian's journey to being the man/vampire he should. It was a different kind of journey for all the side characters to resolve their Point of Views with reality. Mostly though this is just a fantastic piece of storytelling! What I Loved: Normally I would start with the main characters but I really think it was the Merry Band of Vampire Hunters that kind of stole the show (especially in the 2nd half). By the end, I was rooting for the 4 Musketeers (as I called them) especially Grandmama and Sergio. She was just a hoot and he was fantastic about everything. Even Samantha I loved towards the end but that is mostly because of her interactions with Jeff. I did love Cian and Amaliya too. This was a fantastic journey in really well written characters. I love that about Rhiannon's writing. What I Liked: The story was fantastically woven and really well paced. There were quite a few moments of "OMG did that just happen" and "WOW that was pretty cool world building". In the middle, there was a little lull but I think that story building was needed overall.Complaints: NoneWhy I gave it a 4.25: Rhiannon Frater delivered another great story with great characters. She really is one of the best character driven writers out there. You should check her out!
