Overview

Pretty Woman by Fern Michaels

"Fern Michaels shines," raves Publishers Weekly -- and in all of her USA Today and New York Times bestsellers, she touches a chord with women everywhere, creating characters that linger in the heart and mind. Now, take off on the extraordinarily fun and inspiring adventure of an ordinary woman who takes charge of her life by ending her disastrous marriage, losing fifty-five pounds, and getting fit -- and finds she has gained more than she ever dreamed possible!
Rosie Gardener and Vickie Winters were best friends, closer than sisters. Partners in a successful mail-order company, both women lived comfortably in lush Savannah, Georgia. Svelte and single Vickie only wanted the best for her friend -- and she couldn't stay quiet when Rosie, overweight and unable to see her own worth, fell under the spell of Kent Bliss, a two-timing cad whose meal ticket was vulnerable Rosie. The night before Rosie's wedding was the last time Vickie spoke to her -- to warn her about Kent's true nature, and to quit their business before leaving for Europe.
Now, on her third wedding anniversary, Rosie realizes Vickie was right -- and that the Porsche and other indulgences were her attempts to buy the love of a man who only cared about himself. Fed up with his mistreatment, she vows to change her life -- starting by kicking him out that night. The next day, she begins a diet and exercise regime. But more life-changing news awaits: Rosie has the single winning ticket in the Wonderball lottery -- and she's won $302 million.
With Kent lurking in the shadows to claim a share of her money, Rosie needs her friends more than ever -- and when Vickie returns to Savannah, Rosie learns the power of forgiveness. As she loses weight and works out under the eye of sexy personal trainer Jack Silver, a new Rosie emerges. This pretty woman is making a fresh start, and no one's greed or bitterness -- or even her own occasional self-doubts -- will stop her from jumping into life and love with a passion she didn't know she possessed.

I have to say that if you're a size 14 or above, this book may easily offend you. I did like the story line, and it had amusing sections, but the emphasis they put on the main character being extremely overweight and having 'nine rolls of fat' when she was a size 14-16 was appalling. They never stated her height, but unless she was extremely short, a size 14 is in no way as overweight as they make it out to be, it's the regular size of most women in America. As I said, the book has it's good points, but as a size 14 myself, I was insulted by the descriptions.

I almost didn't get this book because of the reviews. I learned to take into consideration what other readers say. With saying that, I was disappointed in the reviews for this book! The story is speaking of how the main character felt about HERSELF. The character was fat and had a very low self esteem. So, the character was fat. Get over it! I think it is a shame that people got so upset that the character was fat and how she was describing herself. It's refreshing to read a story that is happy and about someone who isn't perfectly shaped. As the story progresses it tells how she overcomes her low self esteem and became healthier and happier! In my opinion the author did a great job writing this story! It was fun, romantic, funny, the perfect amount of sorrow and sadness to make it interesting and not depressing. Great Job Fern Michaels! Thank you for such a fun way to spend some of my much needed and infrequent down time!

I agree it was insulting to the normal size 14 women. I put it away and did not finsh. I do not read romances to be insulted.

We can be so foolish when a handsome man pays attention to us. Fortunately, Rosie got smart, even if it did take her three years. What a jerk her husband was. This book is a lesson in abiding love, should it be friendship forever love, romantic love, or to be loved and love an animal. It also shows you that more money, greed, jealousy, hate, and unfaithfulness with many lady friends doesn’t mean you’ll be happy. Of course, there was a happy ending, even for jerk husband who saw the light.

Enjoyed this light romantic story. I loved her triumph and was rooting for her to achieve her goals...no spoilers here! Its nice to see a character that has been mentally whipped succeed and kick butt. Loved the ending. Would recommend for a nice easy read.

I purchased this book b/c I like the author. I story was one which offers hope to those who feel hopeless. However, I would have really enjoyed reading this if the proof reader had done a better job. There were too many words run together; which took away from the enjoyment of reading this book.
