4.5 Stars ~ My most sincere apologies to both Piper and Kenzie, that it has taken me so long to get around to reading your amazing shifter story. I was ecstatic when I heard you were writing about a hedgehog and I've certainly been one of the many fans who've graced your Facebook pages with pictures of these adorable little critters. I was super excited to read Avery and Dylan's story. I laughed and sighed - a lot! I fell head over heels for Avery right from the start. Yes, he can be totally stuck-up, arrogant, and critical of anyone or anything he believes is beneath him...... BUT, there's a huge amount of vulnerability inside Avery and he hides behind his defensiveness and snarky, biting tongue. Dylan is just as clueless in some ways, so it's no wonder that two years have passed with them ignoring each other because they both misconstrued a conversation. Sigh. Sometimes people make things far more difficult than they need to be. Miscommunication will mess up any type of relationship if it's not addressed. When Avery's parents cut him off, and basically tell him he's worthless and they're glad to be done with him, he goes to the wolf pack alpha as Avery is under their protection, to see if there's any jobs he can do within the pack. He ends up taking meals to the elderly and infirm, and driving them to their doctors appointments. To his surprise, Avery discovers how much he enjoys giving back and helping people instead of spending all day shopping and clubbing on his parents dime. Avery gets to be friends with Mr. Otis whose daughter, Lacey, went missing several months before and no one has any leads. Well, Avery can ask around, can't he? *grins* I loved this book! I fell for Avery and Dylan - who wouldn't? I loved Avery's hardheadedness and stubborn willingness to help Mr. Otis. I loved Dylan wanting to protect Avery from getting hurt. The mystery suspense was exciting, the sex was hot, and let's face's a hedgehog shifter story. It's freaking perfect! Thank you, Piper and Kenzie - y'all knocked this out of the park! So this book has been kicking around my should I / shouldn’t I for a while. I have to be honest the shouldn’t I was simple enough, I couldn’t wrap my head around hedgehog shifters. Sorry, I know, petty and stupid. But there you go. So when it came up for audio, I said sure. I enjoy the narrator Iggy Toma past audio, so that will help. I can safely say I’ve not been more wrong about being biased against hedgehogs. Although I will add, in the beginning I did find the I’m better than you attitude of Avery annoying. And glad that was wrote out of him by the end of the book. Dylan and Avery getting off on the wrong foot because of Avery mouth and defense mechanizes and Dylan’s I don’t need this attitude has had them circling each other for years. Both knowing they are mates and both knowing it would never be. Until Avery gets in over his head and Dylan comes to his rescue and something pulls them together. What I think I enjoyed the most about this story is the fact that the authors gave them time. This story took place over months. Dylan and Avery would get together and than not see each other and than do it again. All the while Avery investigated the missing girl for the elder wolf. The connecting of these two was a dance I enjoyed watching. The secondary cast especially the BFF gave the story the extra touches to make this a wonderful tale. Story 5 Narrator 5 Overall 5 I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review by Crystals Many reviewers
