I have dog-eared copies of this entire series. Now I have them safely in my nook library! This is a great series to go to when you need a great story, wonderful interconnected family, and guys that love their women. Reading order (for those who asked): Rafe, Jared, Devin, then Shane.

This was my 1st Nora Roberts and as a series person I bought all 4 at once. I was disappointed after all the hype I had heard about Nora Roberts. I didn't mind the "town legend" in the 1st book as she obviously need it as a plot vehicle, but it was definitely forced and unnecessary in the rest of the books -- with the final book being a waste, if she didn't have enough story for Shane (spending about half the book discussing the other 3 books "events" and ancestral history billed as paranormal activity) then maybe she should have skipped it all together. By the time you've read Rafe and Jared you already know Devin's story but you like all the characters enough to read it anyway -- again after the 1st book the paranormal stuff is just hokey there is enough link for the series just with the brothers and being in the same town that it wasn't needed and was obviously forced in Jared and Devin's stories. Except for the 4th book there is enough actual story and very solid characters to sustain the series.

So good I couldn't put it down 'til I finshed. Love the MacKade men and their choices in women. Not a very long book, but long enough to tell a great story.

This is a short story...not a book. It should be packaged with the stories of the other MacKade brothers in one book.

Quite possibly it's the contrast with the last 3 books I read, but every time I read this, I never like Savannah, and at least this time around, I don't like Jared either. She doesn't have just a chip on her shoulder--it's the entire rock. And he's a hypocritical Neanderthal. She's nasty and rude, and thinks the worst of people (or at least of men) before she even meets them, and I can't find anything in her to relate to. He apparently thinks any woman he deigns to be interested in should be a virgin, or at least a victim. I didn't believe the romance--all I saw was that they had the hots for each other. I didn't understand the rush--that demand for immediate trust and complete disclosure of every event in her entire life 5 minutes after they meet (yes, I'm exaggerating, but not much). I was not remotely amused or sympathetic when she destroyed a couple thousand dollars worth of his belongings because she was pissed off at him. The three stars are because there are some genuinely good parts. Like when Jared talks to Bryan before asking Savannah to marry him. But on the whole, really not one of Nora's better efforts.

I’ve read many Nora Roberts books through the years. This one is just what I expected. It had a strong family at its core and both strong, but flawed, main characters. I always enjoy books that make the characters wait a little for the romance and this book does just that. I like conflict in a relationship because that’s true in life, and that’s here, too. Overall, this was a good, light romance.

I enjoyed reading about the MacKade boys. However, I had just finished the "Inn Boonsboro" trilogy and found them very similar! But like the Montgomery boys better!
