When a well-dressed woman steps out of a bubble and wants to know if you'd like to become a substitute princess, do you A) run; B) faint; or C) say yes? For Desi Bascomb, who's been longing for some glamour in her Idaho life, the choice is a definite C). Desi has a rare ability: with the help of "Royal Rouge," she can temporarily transform into the exact look-alike of any princess who needs her subbing services. Dream come true, right? Well, Desi soon discovers that subbing involves a lot more than wearing a tiara and waving at cameras. . . . In this winning debut, one girl's dream come true turns into the desire to make a positive impact. And an impact Desi makes, one royal fiasco at a time.

I contacted the author (who directed me to her publisher) about this book. It just sounded so cute and since it was sort of set in Idaho, I wanted it! Thankfully the publisher consented to my wish! From the pink glittery cover to the princess story inside, I felt like the this story had Disney written all over. But, not in the cheesy straight to DVD sort of way. I was reminded of Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries (OK the movie version since I haven't read the books). Desi is a great character for pre-teens. She's struggling with who she is, but knows she wants to make a difference. I think she does a fantastic job helping princess' who feel the exact same way she does. And, in doing so she gains confidence in her own life. The story had a little bit of fairy tale magic that makes it all cute and bubbly (pun intended)! Overall perfect for pre-teens, or even younger girls. I think even some adult might like this as well (I know I did)!

Even the cover drew me in. Come on what 12 year old wouldn't luh-v that. Desi was somewhat not how I pictured her at first she quickly became one of my favorite book characters. If only Facade was a real place. I'd love to be a surrogate because I luh-v acting and royalty.

This enchanting book gets a solid 4 gnomes and a gnome hat out of 5 gnomes for having a funny and smart main character who gets quite an interesting job. I actually stayed up late reading and finished the book at about two in the morning. It's the kind of book that'll put you in a good mood and make you smile as you read it. Desi's a great character.Desi starts off the story inside a gopher costume. Needless to say, she would love a more glamorous job then what she has now at the pet store. She hopes to make a better impression in eighth grade but as the story starts you see that her chances to be popular don't look so good. Desi's a very relatable character because she wants to fit in among the popular kids but can't. Her nickname and what her former best friend calls her, is Ditzy. She's a little eccentric but has some big ideas, like having a tee shirt business and always trying out for the school plays. Desi's kind of the odd ball of her family and her sister takes more after her mom and has the whole beauty queen in training deal going on.One day she makes, a wish that changes her life. Desi finds herself a magical job that is a lot better than the pet shop but it has some interesting responsibilities. This agency actually replaces royalty when they need a vacation. I love this agency's mode of travel and their makeup that allows them to become doubles to the princesses that they replace. Desi gets to replace some what you would call unconventional princesses that seem to need a little bit more than a vacation from their lives. Getting to be a wide range of princesses gives her some great insights into her own life and how she views the world.Desi's unconventional thinking gets her into some trouble but her new way of thinking may be just what makes her so good at this job and benefit her in future princess jobs. This story is full of magic, secrets, and a heroine with a sense of humor and heart. I can't wait to see where this series goes next and I'll be eagerly waiting to read the second book in the series.

This book has Disney written all over it. It not only reminds me of Princess Diaries but everything magical and every princess movie Disney has ever made. It is a cute, quirky new series that had me laughing and emphatizing with our new heroine Desi Bascomb. An ordinary girl with an extraordinary powers. The story starts with Desi wearing the hideous groundhog costume at work, then her former best friend, Celeste came by and humiliated her in front of her boyfriend and Desi's long time crush Hayden. Devastated and utterly humiliated she went ahead and cried it out. Her boss Drake appeared and told her that he got this "wishing tank" and that she make a wish if she wants. Like every other heroine, she did try it with skepticism in mind and like all of them Desi got the shock of her lifetime. The "wishing tank" was legitimate. An agent named Meredith suddenly materializes from a bubble while she was in her bathroom and told her that she qualified for a surrogate job- impersonating a princess (with the use of a blush with magical pixie dust so she would look like the princess that she's subbing) and that she got Magical Powers. Book one had three Princess Subbing assignment. Three different princess. Three different scenarios. Three that needs an impact. Not only she's helping this princesses, she's also helping herself. I love Desi, the book really showed how great a fictional person she is no matter how perturb her quasi romance and her social life. Meredith is right, she is a role model. (I'm giving my 8 year old niece a copy when it is released) I love the plot. (seriously how cool would it be if a job like this is available?) I love the ending, it left with a lot of promise. I can't wait to read more of Desi's adventures. It's going to be a good series. Recommended for all ages.

A confession: I find most Middle Grade books difficult to get into. Maybe it¿s because the characters, usually seventh- or eighth-grade girls, tend to be overly whiny. Maybe it¿s because I don¿t really remember my own seventh- and eighth-grade years (possibly because I was overly whiny and I¿ve now blocked that out?). But whatever the reason, I just never seem to connect with the main character.Congratulations, Lindsey Leavitt! With Desi Bascomb, there¿s finally a character who I loved. Now, in the beginning I did think she was a bit whiny, but not insanely so. I mean, what thirteen-year-old girl doesn¿t have her whiny moments? (Okay, I think I¿ve used the word whiny way too many times in this review. No more!) But Desi is more than that. She¿s a girl after my own heart ¿ a girl who loves classic movies is a girl to cheer for in my book. She¿s a girl who, despite the fact that her best friend turned on her and has basically turned the whole school against her, carries on. And her one wish in life is that she make an impact.Cue Agent Meredith, floating into the room in a bubble, who gives her the opportunity to do just that. Although Desi doesn¿t understand what her job as a sub will bring, she feels sure that it will be a way to finally make an impact. Things don¿t go exactly how Desi expects ¿ they so rarely do ¿ but as Desi points out, she is the ¿perseverer¿ of the family, and she does just that. When she faces adversity during her subbing jobs, she pushes forward and does what she believes is best for her client, even when Meredith and the other agents disagree. This book was a delightful read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. I can¿t wait for the next book to be released so I can see more of Desi¿s adventures, both on and off the job!

Princess for Hire is a fun, whimsical read that many will find irresistible.I loved Desi she was relatable, funny and, easy to like.during this whole book I never felt like I wanted stop reading because it was too boring or dull it always kept me entertained which is very rare.In this book Desi takes the place/substitute for princesses who want to take a break and get away.Desi finds her self in some weird situations but somehow ends up making things better because she does what she believes is right. The plot moved quickly in this book which was really good because I hate (dislike) books that have plots that seem to drag on forever. The end of this book made me so happy but yet so sad at the same time because Desi finally realizes who is the right guy for her but it might be near impossible for them to be together.Overall: Princess for Hire is a magical book by debut author Lindsey Levitt That brings out your inner princess.
