Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The Princess is a TV star on Nickelodeon and this book is an adaptation of a screenplay written by Chris Nee and Sascha Paladino. It is a Level 1 book in the "Ready-to-Read" series, but it is in rebus format. The text in this title is located under the pictures, so there is no need for a separate key. The Monkey King arrives while Princes Kai-lan is playing ball with her friends. Apparently there is a land where a wall separates the Foxes and the Bears and they are not friends. The Princess decides that she can help and she and her friends ride magic clouds to this foreign land. Once there they learn about the issues that have caused the bears and foxes to be unhappy with each other. Issues that in today's world do not seem to have any serious meaning, but sometimes that is the way it is. She uses peaches as a peace offering and way to get the two sides to discuss their issues of contention. As expected it is all happily resolved and Kai-Lan will become their princess. As expected the illustrations have a cartoon flavor with a big-eyed Princess Kai-lan which belies her oriental heritage. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
