I found this book completely horrible. It is hard to read, there are limited confusing samples and it it not worth the time and effort reading it, I am now confused as hell.

I am physician who recently was introduced to the arcane world of formal biostatistics for the first time in my professional life. The entrance to this adventure took the form of a reading of the Pagono tome 'Principles of Biostatistics'. If there is a crime attached to bad, opaque writing, then not only should the duo of Messr Pagono and Gauvreau be indicted, but they should be tried, sentenced, and hung in effigy. This is an egregiously poorly written and dense book consisting of large swaths of virtually unintelligable English. It probably presupposes a familarity of statistics, but even so, given the state of the art in statistical pedagogy, there is simply no excuse for this book making it to print. It is a put off for first time readers, does not compare favorably with its competitors, and lacks novelty, sublety or even a trace of humor. Its dense prose may provide economy for the benefit of ecomonic savvy readers, but to the average student of biostatistics, reading 'Principles of Biostatistics' is nothing but an excercise of frustration and futility. Certainly not worthy of any serious attention.

There are many good biostats texts available. This is not one of them!

I found this book to be easy to understand and a great complement to my intro Biostatistics course. It did not rely heavily on formulas but explained key concepts in words which was really helpful!
