Reads like a poor outline, with very little insight or background into the events, people or thought-process of what may be one of the greatest entertainment/real estate ventures of the 20th century. No anecdotes, never-told stories, etc. Did the author actually interview anyone involved in the project? Was the info only gathered from already published material? Too much is glossed-over. Also, far too much of the book...bulk of second spent detailing the legislative process, but with no behind-the-scenes insight. Boring. This may be a fair starter book for someone who has no idea on the beginnings of can always fill in the gaping holes with other, more thought-out Disney books later. However, for even the casual Disney fan, take a pass. Nothing new is offered here.

This was a great book to see what happened before Disney World came to be. This is about all of what Disney went through to select and buy the land that we now know as Disney World. It also includes how Reedy Creek came to be. Anyone who has been through the tours at the park and read all of the books about the park itself will find this an interesting read. This is the "rest of the story" for those big Disney fans who want to know about what went into the business part of creating Disney World. There was a lot that Disney went through to realize his dream. If you want to know about the park opening, I would recommend Spinning Disney's World by Charles Ridgeway. It has some very funny stories in it. If you are planning to visit Disney World, I highly recommend PassPorter's Guide to Disney World. It is a great resource.

SO, I asked for this book as a present because it says it goes into how Disney World came to be...WRONG. This book says how the land was found/the legislation that went into buying the land, the lawsuits that happened as a result of buying the land...but it doesn't say anything about how Disney World formed into the park it is...not a thing. SO, if you're into politics and legislation...then this is the book for you, but if you're looking for Disney Imagination and ideas...skip this one.

I would echo the sentiments of WaltFan above.  Reads like an outline.  Not enough background information or development of people involved in creating Disney World.  Would not recommend.
