Kim Heldman¿s definition of a project is so broad that even people who do not work in business or government can benefit from her experience and suggestions. Although she draws on the recommendations of the Project Management Institute (PMI), she seasons its advice with helpful observations about which recommendations to follow and which to ignore. The book¿s organization is logical and easy to follow, and Heldman¿s style is generally no-nonsense and concise. She avoids jargon, and includes enough anecdotes and examples to keep the book lively and easy to follow. Few how-to books are as well executed as this one. We recommend it to anyone facing the challenge of managing a project, especially first timers.
Having had four years of project management experience, I was interested in reading an affordable book on this subject. This is an affordable book that gives a very good comprehensive introduction to project managment. If you are short on time, read one chapter at a time. Each chapter discusses specific project activities. The chapters build on previous chapters information, so it is beneficial to read the chapters in order. The chapters can be read separately if needed as a pm refresher. A list of questions at the end of a chapters serves as a review of the chapter material. Physically, the book is made with a glossy cover and the inside sheets are heavy non glossy sheets. The sheets hold up to limited contact with water, I learned this as I read the book by the pool.
