I remember when I first received The Promised God-Man Is Here. I picked it up into my hands and suddenly felt love illuminating from the book. It reminded me so much of when I received the Knee of Listening (the autobiography of Adi Da Samraj) two years ago in January 1998. I remember reading the two books just the same; not being able to put them down for hours. I read The Promised God-Man Is Here for probably five hours straight. I felt myself relaxing and pleasured into the words of the book and restored to a deep feeling of devotion and equanimity. I have read some philosophy and other mind stimulating things but none of them ever affected me like The Promised God-Man Is Here.

The Promised God-Man is Here is an extraordinary biography of the living spiritual master Adi Da Love-Ananda Samraj and a history of his work. The author, Carolyn Lee takes you into his life and clarifies the story which contains much of Adi Da's own teachings as they were spoken, plus numerous accounts by his devotees of the profound spiritual events and transformations which occurred to them in his company. This is NOT AT ALL another boring religious volume--it lives and breathes and is thick with heart and mystery. On the one hand, I felt purified and wept regularly because of the beauty and clarity of what Adi Da Samraj reveals. On the other hand, I cracked up at some of the hilarious hi-jinks. I especially felt that I came to know the people in this spiritual community by feeling the love and the humor in their fierce committment to understand and practice the way of spiritual life Adi Da Samraj offers.

What is more appealing, revealing and confronting than God in human form? In The Promised God-man is Here I have discovered not only that he is here, now, but how he works! I learned about his purpose, expressed so poetically on pages 738 and 739, his life history (pages 7 to 70), and excitedly read intimate stories of the way he draws his devotees into situations which demonstrate his loving way of helping them transcend their egos. I wept over one devotee's experience in London (pages 386 to 390) when Adi Da Samraj helped her remain in service to Him when her instinct was to hide (a familiar feeling for me) and how, through overcoming her fear she grew humanly and spiritually. The key, he tells us, is in being attracted to him. For me this book increased my attraction page by page.
