Promises Fulfilled
Third installment in the continuing story of Taran’s people of Conquered and In Defiance of Destiny . . .
Nebtat Ar-Nau is awakened in the middle of the night to the shocking news that his father’s ship has been attacked while leaving Milar; completely destroyed by the same enemy people their world had confronted once before on Laren many years ago. He also learns that his brother Taran, the leader of Milar, has quickly gathered his people and fled that world and their enemy, and was even now heading toward the safety of Reikah.
But they later discover that Taran has been followed.
Ennora’s powers as an empath were the reason she was sent by High Leader Karakk to track the small ship which fled the world of Milar. But it was only the fact that Karakk held her younger sister Jinna hostage, and had been doing so for the past year, which made her obey any of his orders. But with no way available for her to free her sister from the clutches of the evil High Leader, it seemed there was no hope of her servitude ever ending.
Nebtat suddenly finds himself to be the leader of Reikah’s vast and varied alliance of over fifty worlds, and one of the first things he must tend to in his new position is confronting this small and stubborn woman who had been attempting to spy upon them. But once he realizes they share the same enemy, he welcomes her assistance and technical knowledge in achieving their common goal of defeating that enemy. And before he realizes what’s happening, he’s also welcoming her into his scarred and heavily guarded heart.
Ennora could easily read the lingering pain and guilt which Nebtat carried inside him over the death of his wife five years ago. She could also read the growing attraction he felt for her, as well. But she would not be bound to a man who could not accept her as she was; a woman fully capable of assisting the rescue team in retrieving her sister from the clutches of their enemy. And Nebtat would not bind her to him fearing that her sense of adventure might one day rip her from him forever. His heart just could not survive another loss like that.
But could his heart survive the loss of simply letting her turn and walk away from him forever?
